Open City 2016: Back Door Eats

Photo of: Open City

Halifax’s greatest celebration of local shops, restaurants, and fun is back!

On May 7, 2016 the city will be alive with the sounds of local. We’re a city that loves to support our own, and I love Local is an easy way to explore lots of local options in one day.

You don’t want to miss these Back Door Takeout spots. What’s best, you’re supporting local businesses that also support the community.

The Canteen

Located in Dartmouth, on Ochterloney St., The Canteen will be serving up a mouth-watering Porchetta Sandwich with Truffled Cheese sauce – $5 – a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Sandwiches will be available from 10:00 a.m. until they’re all gone, so you’ll want to get there early.

Downtown Dartmouth is a place I have called home for nine years and a place that I absolutely love. What better way to give back to my neighbourhood, than by opening up an eatery – a place that I myself would frequent.” – Owner/chef Renée Lavallée

Temple Bar Cocktails & Kitchen

If you pop across the harbour, you’ll want to make your way up to Temple Bar Cocktails & Kitchen on Barrington St. Starting at noon, they’ll be on hand to serve some unique Heritage Pork Mole & Corn Tortilla Chips. Temple has a strong focus on iconic cocktails with a seasonal, Nova Scotian twist, local craft beers, cider and wine by the glass.

Brooklyn Warehouse

Another exciting spot to get your Back Door Takeout fix is Brooklyn Warehouse. From 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. you can curb your hunger with a true Halifax treat: The Lobster Corndog. What says local more than delicious Nova Scotia lobster? The Brooklyn Warehouse has always supported local shopping and eating  “Eat local. Shop local. Visit a farm.” Proudly displayed on their menu.

And there’s more…
