Taste of The Month: Picnics & Patios

Grab your favourite blanket, load up the car and hit the road or take a stroll to your favourite restaurant, winery or beer garden because it’s picnics and patios month here at Taste of Nova Scotia! Whether you’re looking for a fun-filled day of adventure or an afternoon of relaxation, Nova Scotia has the picnic or patio for you.

Looking for ways to celebrate this month? We’ve got some great ideas to get you started:

Hit the Trail

Soak up the sun on a warm, inviting patio on the Nova Scotia Good Cheer Trail. Canada’s first and only winery, cidery, brewery, and distillery trail. With 71 trail stops across the province, from Yarmouth to Cape Breton – and everywhere in between, what will you tap into?

Dine with a View

There’s no shortage of breathtaking scenery and stunning views in Nova Scotia. Dine on a patio overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or sip wine at a vineyard with views of the sprawling Annapolis Valley scenery. Grab your Taste of Nova Scotia culinary guide and start planning your Nova Scotia patio adventure.

Picnic in the Park

Halifax Metro is home to many wonderful parks. Picnic on The Commons, in Point Pleasant Park or the Public Gardens with a delicious, customized picnic basket for two from Scanway Catering.

Or, travel along Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore and picnic at one of the many parks or beaches. Be sure to pick up some fresh-made French pastries and other tasty treats from Boulangerie la Vendéenne or Kate’s Sweet Indulgence, or grab a picnic to-go from Lane’s Privateer Inn, before stopping at the perfect-picnic spot – a lighthouse, park or beach.

Why not cruise along the winding trails at Jost Vineyards on the Northumberland Shore. Rent a bike and take in the beautiful vineyard. They have picnic baskets that clip right on to the front of the bikes that will hold a lunch and a bottle of wine for your tour.

Finally, grab some fresh seafood takeout from Restaurant Avalon or The Chowder House and hop on Cape Breton’s stunning Cabot Trail.

There’s no place like home

Put up those patio umbrella’s or lay out a blanket in the backyard and try these two new recipes, perfect for a warm sunny day at home.
