Taste of the Month: Love Local

This February, we’re declaring our love for local.

Okay, we confess ― we have a pretty serious crush on Nova Scotia’s culinary community. We live in a province brimming with diverse food cultures, innovative producers and exceptional chefs. As you celebrate Valentine’s Day this month, make sure you spread some of that love to Nova Scotia’s culinary community.

Dine OutWhen you take that special someone out for dinner, give some thought to the places that highlight the best our province has to offer. At Taste of Nova Scotia, we have more than 200 members who make a sincere effort to provide an authentic Nova Scotia experience. Visit our member page for a complete list.

Shop Local: When making a meal, pick up something made in Nova Scotia. Places like Noggins, Stirling Fruit Farms Ltd., Meadowbrook Meat Market, The Pork Shop, Clearwater Seafoods Ltd., Fisherman’s Market, Boulangerie la Vendeenne, and many others make it easy to pick up local items for cooking.

Get Creative: Taste of Nova Scotia gift boxes showcase an assortment of culinary producers and make a great gift for your sweetie.

Treat Yourself: Who says February has to be all about celebrating someone else? Give yourself some love this month and treat yourself to a bottle of Nova Scotia sparkling wine, a fancy meal (have you heard of Dine Around) or a decadent dessert. You deserve it!

Be Social: Don’t forget to share photos of your local love with us on Instagram and Twitter using #tasteofthemonth.

Win: Our contest to win a copy of the Nova Scotia Cookery Then & Now archives cookbook launches this month. Follow us on Facebook to win.

Explore: There are lots of great Valentine’s themed culinary events happening this month across Nova Scotia. Stay in the loop with our What’s Cooking blog each week to find out about the events happening in your area.

Curious what we’ve got planned next? We’ll be featuring the following Nova Scotia themes in the coming months:

March – Maple
April – Seafood
