A Taste of Saltscapes 2017

We’re at it again! Taste of Nova Scotia is a proud partner of the 2017 Saltscapes Expo, taking place April 21 to 23 at Halifax Exhibition Centre. Wondering what to expect this year? We’ve got a breakdown of the three best ways to experience this incredible weekend – taste, learn and judge!

Learn

Stop by the culinary stage for locally-inspired tastings, educational demos and culinary competitions. Demos include topics like Lobster 101 with the The Kilted Chef Alain Bosse, Hot & Cold Smoked Salmon with J. Willy Krauch and Comeau’s Sea Foods Ltd., Microbrew 101 with Liquid Assets and Propeller Brewing Company, Eating Your Way Through Nova Scotia’s Culinary History with Chef Chris Bolt of The Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar, and so much more!

Judge

Saltscapes Chowder Cook-Off
Grab a seat at the Taste of Nova Scotia Culinary Stage and be a judge! The Cutting Edge Chowder Cook-Off features chefs from across the province going head to head, each with their own unique take on a Nova Scotia chowder. Using the freshest seafood Nova Scotia has to offer, they will have 45 minutes to create something reflective of our unique land and sea. During each cook-off, The Kilted Chef Alain Bosse will provide engaging commentary and answer questions from the crowd. At the end, everyone can sample the finished chowder and help choose a winner!

This year, we have eight talented chefs vying for the title of Chowder Cook-Off Champion. Stop by and cheer on Chefs Shaun Zwarun (Kiju’s Restaurant, Membertou Trade and Convention Centre), Richard Sanford (Durty Nelly’s: An Authentic Irish Pub), Jeffrey MacNeil (Rime Restaurant + Wine Bar), Matt Krizan (Mateus Bistro), Jonathan Rhyno (Lane’s Privateer Inn), Shane Robillard (Fox Harb’r Resort), Chris Bolt (The Press Gang Restaurant & Oyster Bar) and TJ Pittman (Old Fish Factory Restaurant & Ice House Bar) as they battle for the title of best chowder.
