What’s Cooking April 1 – 8?

Taste of Nova Scotia members are seriously hustling to ensure you have a fun-filled spring! Let Boondocks show their appreciation, learn all about wine with Obladee, dive into a selection of delicious desserts and chocolate, take advantage of Kitchen Door’s event studio classes, learn how to make hand-made pasta or desserts, or enjoy a relaxing yoga session paired with wine. There is no excuse to stay indoors this spring!

April 1: Customer Appreciation Day

Boondocks loves serving Nova Scotia and wants to show their appreciation to everyone that loves to support local! They will be serving $10 fish and chips, $5 Garrison draught and free cake, while supplies last!

April 2 – 30: Five Week Introduction to Wine Course

 

Unlock your inner wine nerd with Obladee‘s upcoming “Introduction to Wine” course! The course is developed and led by certified, professional Sommeliers Heather Rankin and Erin Beazely. You will taste a wide variety of wines with custom food pairings designed and prepared with this course in mind. As well, a comprehensive course manual will be provided for you to keep. This 5-week wine and food course runs every Tuesday night.

April 3 & 4 – 14: Delicious Dessert Class & Dessert Tasting Week

The Flying Apron is known as a dessert destination and people travel far & wide to enjoy their great selection of house-made desserts.

April 3: Kicking off Dessert Tasting Week with a brand new dessert class where you will learn to make three delicious desserts: panna cotta with cherry compote, lemon chocolate trifle, and banoffee pie!

April 4 – 14: Dessert Flights will also be available with either 3 or 5 selections. They will have a variety of desserts available throughout each day, including gluten free options. The selection will change as they make more desserts!

April 4, 5, 7: Kitchen Door’s Event Studio

April 4: A sharp knife is a safe knife! Kitchen Door’s knife skills class will show you how to get the most out your favourite blade. You’ll learn a variety of knife cuts and get lots of repetition to practice your slicing and dicing. You’ll learn the safest ways to care and use your knives, as well as make a quick dish featuring your knife work.

April 5: Watch and learn as Chef Andrew prepares a meal using modern cooking techniques and equipment. Featuring sous-vide and pressure-cooking tips and tricks, you too can learn to cook like a pro!

April 7: Nothing is im-pasta-ble with the right technique! You and Kitchen Door will make a variety of pastas from scratch, and show you how to use your noodle like a pro at their Make & Take Pasta class. Featuring 2-3 varieties of fresh pasta that participants prepare from start to finish to take home!

April 5 – 6: Hand Made Pasta Classes

April 5 -6: Celebrate the end of winter with The Flying Apron’s Spring Pasta Package! Their popular hands-on pasta class is back with a great new menu. Learn to make fresh pasta from scratch and create three delicious dishes. This package includes: accommodations on Friday night, breakfast, 2 hands-on class registrations and lunch on Saturday in your class!

April 6: Vin & Pâtisseries

Avondale Sky Winery has teamed up with Chocolate Hackers to bring you a unique and memorable tasting experience. They’re opening their doors for you to enjoy a carefully curated tasting of some of their favourite wines paired with gourmet, handcrafted pastries and chocolates. To complete the experience, they’ll also be serving raclette, a delicious melted cheese dish, and a selection of wines by the glass.

April 7: Wine and Yoga

Springtime is all about new beginnings! Obladee and Véro are back with two new Wine Yoga sessions to help usher in this phase of renewal. A trio of wines will follow the yoga session afterwards. This last hour is an open, social session so feel free to invite friends. Please bring your own mats – and an open heart!

Enjoy a one-hour yoga session with Holly Ross of The Yoga Hen Adventures at Avondale Sky Winery, followed by a delicious pre-set brunch prepared by Chef Justin Floyd. One non-alcoholic beverage of your choice is included in the ticket price.

Craft Draught Showdown – Sober Island vs Brightwood (April 11): Enjoy 5 courses prepared by Chef Michael Dolente, each one paired with two 4 oz. brews selected by brewmasters from Sober Island Brewing Company and Brightwood Brewery. Chef and breweries will be there to speak about their pairings and after each course you’ll vote for your favourite pairing.

Flavours of Nova Scotia with Luckett Vineyards (April 12): Join Luckett Vineyard’s winemaker Mike Mainguy and Sous Chef Graeme Mansky for a fun and educational evening of Nova Scotian wine and food pairings in The Port’s Experience Room. Guests will experience a guided tasting and have the opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed environment.

Farmer meet up: Santé Centre (April 12): With Noggins’ summer shares starting in just 3 months they are hosting a farmers meet up for current and new share members, as well as anyone who would like to learn more about their farm. It is also a chance to celebrate their 10th season of community shared agriculture.

LBL Meet the Brewers – Meander River Guided Tasting (April 13): Join the Ladies Beer League as Meander River’s owner Alan Bailey welcomes everyone and leads a guided tasting and mini brewery tour. There will also be appetizers from Gold Island Bakery to complement the brews.

6th Annual Easter Egg Hunt Wine Tours (April 19 & 20): Who said Easter is just for kids? First visit Gaspereau Vineyards known for their crisp whites including an award-winning Reisling. Next, visit Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards for a tour that takes you through the whole facility while enjoying a variety of wines from white, red, and sparkling wines! Lastly, visit Mercator Vineyards for a lovely flight of their special wines each paired with gourmet chocolate!
