What’s Cooking August 1 to 7?

Between summer kitchen parties, Cantonese feasts and Food Day Canada…we can’t decide what to eat! That means you have to try it all so you don’t miss out on any of the delicious and local culinary experiences our province is offering this week.

August is Blueberry month here at Taste of Nova Scotia and we are berry excited to share all of our awesome locally inspired recipes, experiences and ideas with you all month long!

August 4: Summer Kitchen Party

Love summer, seafood, live music, wine and beer? Us too! Lucky for us, Old Fish Factory  is hosting another Summer Kitchen Party at their Ice House Bar. Get there early so you can enjoy a glass of local wine and a seafood dinner on their patio overlooking the beautiful Lunenburg Harbour.

 August 4: Food Day Canada

Get ready for Canada’s Local Food Day! This annual celebration of local food features chefs and home cooks honoring our farmers and fishers by serving local ingredients. This is a day to really appreciate what our land and sea has given us and you can celebrate in a variety of ways –  thanks to all of our wonderful local restaurants and producers!

August 7: Cantonese Banquet Menu

The Orient Chinese Cuisine is changing up their menu for one night only to host a Summer Feast! The special menu will be filled with traditional Cantonese Banquet style foods made with traditional Nova Scotian ingredients. Don’t miss out on Nova Scotia Seafood Soup With Sea Cucumber and Cantonese Style Hot Chili Lobsters!

August: Summers In Full Swing!

With summer in full swing, Cape Breton is as beautiful as ever! Take the family out for a weekend soaking up the sun and enjoying local food and drink. For endless fun activities head to Cabot Links for a variety of activities for everyone including the bikers, hikers and ocean lovers. After that workout, you’ll for sure need something to fill you up, good thing Cape Breton is filled with a delicious culinary scene. Head to one of the many restaurants or producers close by: Clove Hitch Bar & Bistro, Galloping Cows Fine FoodsGlenora Inn & Distillery or The Red Shoe Pub!

Halifax Seaport Beerfest (August 10-11) —Don’t miss out on weekend filled with over 300 breweries and cideries from around the world.

Flowers, Food & Farm Tour (August 12)— The Flying Apron Inn & Cookery is hosting a fun flower-filled day with special guest Denise Stockdale!

The Voyage Through Gin (August 12)— Join The Watch That Ends The Night as they bring in a special spirit sommelier to pair your dinner with six different gins from around the world.

From Plant To Plate-Our Haskap Berry Story (August 15)—Join Haskapa as they share their Haskap story; from our plants to your plates to our plans for the future!

Flavours, Tuscan Addition (August 18)— Planters Ridge Winery is hosting a unique dining experience overlooking the vineyards featuring Tuscany inspired flavours.

Feast! A Cole Harbour Long Table Dinner (August 25) — Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum is hosting a long table dinner featuring the delicious flavours of Nova Scotia summer.

Avondale Garlic Festival (September 16) — Join Avondale Sky Winery as they host the Garlic Festival. Great music and garlic-inspired food all on the beautiful grounds by the vineyards.
