What’s Cooking June 27 to July 4, 2017?


We’ve got a full tray of things for you to try on this big Canada 150 weekend. Whether that’s refreshing drinks, strawberries, local take-out, Canada Day celebrations or The Highland Games, celebrate the long-weekend make local food and drinks a part of your festivities. Don’t forget to grab a slice of cake while you’re at it, because what’s a birthday without cake right?

June 27: Haskapa Tastings at Stirling Fruit Farms

Sip into summer at Stirling Fruit Farm with some Haskapa  juice samples on Tuesday, June 27. And since strawberry season is here, make sure to spend some time at their strawberry U-pick if you head to the Valley this weekend.

June 28: The Canteen’s “Little C” Opens

Dartmouth called and The Canteen answered! They’re bringing back their take-out in a big way with the opening of Little C. Now there’s even more reason the love this local downtown Dartmouth hot spot.

June 29: Haskapa Beauty & Bliss

If you want some TLC before your Canada Day weekend festivities, we’ve got the thing for you. Haskapa is hosting a Beauty and Bliss event with 2 hours of facials, treatments and yoga to relax your mind, body and spirit.  More info: Haskapa 

July 1: 150 CANADA DAY

O Canada, it’s been 150 glorious years and we here in Nova Scotia want this to be your biggest and best birthday yet. White Point Beach Resort is throwing a beach party to celebrate with fun for everyone and lasting all day long. They have everything from crafts, adventures, games, bonfires and of course cake! Roast marshmallows and watch the fireworks on the beach to celebrate Canada Day in Nova Scotia.

July 28-30: A Taste of Nova Scotia on Georges Island – Explore the mystery of Georges Island firsthand while enjoying three locally-inspired dinners. As the 2017 RDV Tall Ships Regatta sails by, you’ll be cracking open lobster, savoring local wine and experiencing a view few others have witnessed. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable summer celebration. Lobster Dinner (July 28), Good Cheer & BBQ (July 29), Sip n’ Shuck (July 30). 

July 5 to Aug 30: Luckett Wines on the Water is the ultimate Nova Scotian experience. Enjoy sailing, singing along to local music, and sampling Luckett Vineyard wines paired with delicious local seafood dishes.

August 11 & 12: The Halifax Seaport Beerfest is back and with 110 producers discussing over 300 unique products, you won’t want to miss out. Taste members you’ll want to sample include: Boxing Rock Brewing CoBulwark Cider and Garrison Brewing Co.

September 29 & 30: Savour as many oysters as your heart (and stomach) desires at the annual Halifax Oyster Festival. Two delectable days of high quality local shellfish to sip, sample and enjoy. Be sure to sample some Taste members participating like Sober Island Oysters, Eel Lake Oyster Farm and Bay Enterprises Limited.
