What’s Cooking March 11 – 18?

Looking for ways to avoid the windchill? This week learn to make your very own handmade pasta, enjoy a 5-course beer pairing or get to know your local farmers. You won’t find yourself stuck out in the cold this week!

March 13: Handmade Pasta – Color, Flavor & Shape

The Flying Apron’s hands-on classes offer you the opportunity to practice new skills as you cook alongside their chef in a 3-hour class. Take your homemade pasta to a whole new level with this specialty class. You will make a pasta dough, and then experiment with adding colour and flavour with prepped ingredients like beet puree and cooked squash. Then learn to make different shapes with the pasta roller and Chef Chris’s tips & tricks.

March 15 – 24: Burger Bus

Nova Scotia Wine Tours has collaborated with The Coast leading up to the much loved Halifax Burger Week, which raises money for Feed Nova Scotia. It is a 3 hour tour visiting 5 Burger Week restaurants, on March 15,16, 22, 23, 24, so guests can be the first to taste the burger week burgers plus a local craft brew at each stop. Each stops serves a ¼-1/2 of burger to each guest.

March 16: 2019 Southwest NS Agriculture Day

Join the Municipality of Chester for their 6th Annual Southwest Nova Scotia Agriculture Day at the Oak Island Resort and Conference Centre. This full day event brings together farmers, interested farmers and the general public for a day of networking and learning. Register for this free event now!

March 16: Long Table Dinner

Harbour City Bar & Grill is excited to present the first Long Table dinner of 2019! Chef Erick is dreaming up a fantastic 5-course menu, including tuna poke, steamed mussels, braised short rib ragout and more, to pair with organic beer from Big Spruce Brewery. 1 table, 4 beers, 5 course, 18 tickets, call to reserve your spot at the dinner table.

March 19: 5 Course Beer Dinner

Garrison Brewing Co. and Agricola Street Brasserie are teaming up to entertain you. Brewmaster Daniel Girard & Chef Dwayne Macleod will guide 20 guests through a five course meal at the Brasserie accompanied by different, small release Garrison brews.

Biscuit Babes Playgroup (Mondays in March) – Come to The Biscuit Eater Cafe and Bookstore with your kiddos ages 0-5 on Monday mornings in March from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for the Biscuit Babes Playgroup! There will be songs, stories, snacks and of course the chance to make new friends. Suggested donation of $10 but all are welcome.

Demystifying Cool Climate Chardonnay and Riesling (March 23) – Join Planter’s Ridge and Sommelier Sarah Blanchard and let them guide you through an approachable educational session on the origins of well known yet complex grape varieties, their heritage in France, beginnings in Nova Scotia and take a look at the climatic influence of both regions.

A Greek Wine Dinner! (March 28) – Get Your Greek On with Obladee, A Wine Bar! With a three-course Greek Wine Dinner! Featuring the wines of Domaine Kalathas & Greece-inspired flavours from Chef Bryan Steiss. Plus, interactive discussion from Sommeliers Heather Rankin & Erin Beazley, and live Mediterranean music.

Kitchen Door’s Event Studio (April 4) – Kitchen Door’s Event Studio is opening with a variety of different classes, including Demo & Dine to our Food Lab Series, there’s something for everyone!

Bend & Brunch with the Yoga Hen (April 7) – Enjoy a one-hour yoga session with Holly Ross of The Yoga Hen Adventures in the tranquil winery tasting room at Avondale Sky, followed by a delicious pre-set brunch prepared by Chef Justin Floyd. One non-alcoholic beverage of your choice is included in the ticket price. Mimosas and a selection of wines by the glass will also be available for purchase. This will be a fun-filled morning that will be sure to beat the winter blues!
