What’s Cooking in Nova Scotia May 5 to 19?

Bring your appetite! Now that spring seems to have officially arrived, the culinary world is buzzing with excitement. With Nova Scotia Craft Beer week kicking off and the return of many seasonal favourites, here’s a look at some events that are sure to make your taste buds swoon:

May 8-17: Craft beer lovers unite! This week marks the first ever NS Craft Beer Week and there’s lots of events to take in.

If music and beer sounds like an ideal pairing, be sure to pick up tickets to Beer & Beethoven at the Halifax Forum on May 8. Sample some great craft beer and hear a variety of songs, courtesy of Symphony Nova Scotia.

On May 9White Point Beach Resort is kicking off the week with some fantastic events highlighting and celebrating local craft brewers. Join Chef Alan Crosby at 2 p.m. for a classroom cooking with local beer session. There’s also a Rare Bird Drop In session featuring samples from Rare Bird Craft Brewery. There’s no doubt that you’ll get your fill of fun (and craft beer) at this event.

May 9:  I Love Local’s Open City will see places like Field GuideJust Us!McKelvie’s RestaurantMorris EastScanway Bakery & CaféSugah! and The Canteen offering amazing deals to help you rediscover the city.

May 10: Don’t forget to show your appreciation for Mom today! Many of our members are offering special brunches and suppers in her honour. Why not stop by Rudder’s Seafood Restaurant and Brewpub from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and treat her to brunch with a local flair?

May 14: Enjoy music and great local food? Swing by Gabrieau’s Bistro. Take in the music of Edith Piaf as performed by Ariana Nasr and Andy Flinn, while indulging in a three-course gourmet meal by Chef Mark Gabrieau.

May 16: Stop by the Olympic Community Centre in Halifax to take part in the Nova Scotia Craft Beer Fest Full House. This event will highlight all members of the NS Craft Brewers Association and allow guests to sample beers from brewers such as Garrison Brewing Company, Rudder’s Brew Pub, Paddy’s Brewpub, Propeller Brewing Company and Townhouse Brewpub. While there, check out the Good Cheer Trail booth for more information on this exciting new project.

May (ongoing): For anyone on the Eastern Shore, lobster season is a sure sign of spring- Plan a weekend at DesBarres Manor Inn to help celebrate their Chedabucto Bay Lobster Festival. Enjoy a lobster cooking class, meet a local lobster fisherman and enjoy great seafood dinners each night.
