Homestyle Cranberry Sauce

Who says delicious recipes need to be complicated and time consuming? All you need to whip up this holiday staple are local cranberries and twenty minutes! You can stick to a classic cranberry sauce, or add orange peel, cinnamon, or local maple syrup for a twist.

Ingredients

3 cups  local cranberries (12 oz pkg), fresh or frozen
1 cup  water
¾ cup  sugar

Directions

  1. Put berries and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. When the first few berries pop, stir in sugar. Continue to cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until nearly all berries have popped. Bottle immediately and store, or (even better) serve warm.
  2. For Cranberry Orange Sauce, add peel of one small orange, grated on large holes of grater, when the sugar is added.
  3. For Cranberry Maple Sauce, replace sugar with ⅜ cup maple syrup and ½ cup brown sugar.
