Meet Frazer Hunter. Frazer is the owner of the family run business, The Knoydart Cheese House and Farm. He and his family have settled in Merigomish with the goal of creating incredible local products for the community that surrounds them. His hard work has led to great success, and their cheese has made them a staple in the Merigomish landscape.

Frazer loves all things cheese- the flavour, smell, and texture has always enchanted the palate of Frazer and his family. One day, inspiration took hold and the Hunter family decided to create a small business focusing on creating local, premium cheese. Fast forward some years later, Knoydart Cheese House & Farm is striving in the heart of Merigomish. Frazer says he’s dedicated to creating high quality local cheese that satisfies the expectations cheese lovers have come to expect. Frazer shares that he’s proud to own Knoydart, but is even prouder that it’s a family-run business.

Family is important to Frazer. It’s a source of consistent joy and companionship in his life. One of the many reasons for Knoydart’s success is the bond shared between the employees. There’s a certain level of trust you find in a family business not seen elsewhere. This chemistry is enhanced by the charms and quirks that comes with living in Nova Scotia.

The Hunter family loves living in Nova Scotia. The food, drink, and land are all attractions to Frazer, but those aren’t the main reason he loves it here. The real reason Knoydart Cheese House calls Nova Scotia it’s home is the people. The people are what’s important to this province. At least that’s how Frazer sees it.

Frazer views Nova Scotia as home, stating it’s a wonderful place to raise a family. There’s a special bond Nova Scotians have with each other that isn’t present in other places of the world. A sense of community and belonging is what attracted the Hunter family to Nova Scotia. Frazer told how he feels a sense of security and safety within the province. Especially in regards to local businesses and how supportive we can be to one another.

The Knoydart Cheese House and Farm appreciates the value of a local business and all the positive aspects they bring along. Frazer says he happily buys and sells local because of the huge impact it has on Nova Scotia. He believes that the economic impact buying local provides is an essential part of what keeps an area thriving. Local business also help create jobs for those seeking work. Local business provides products made from the heart and soul of those who really care about their work. That’s why Frazer loves being a business focused on providing a premium product made at home.

So what’s next for Knoydart Cheese House and Farm? You’ll be glad to hear that there’s some interesting stuff in the works. The number one product Frazer wants to focus on creating is local yogurt. He says the demand is high and it would be a great opportunity for both the business, and the province as a whole. A new source of local yogurt would be a very highly beneficial addition to the local population.

Frazer Hunter planted his roots in Merigomish and has never looked back. Since he and his family decided to start Knoydart Cheese House & Farm, it’s been a wild ride that’s seen many different challenges. Despite such challenges, Frazer pushes on and keeps focusing on what matters to him. His care for Nova Scotia is infectious, his drive for success is commendable, and his love for his family is obvious.
