What’s Cooking? October 15 – October 20
The fall colours have arrived and there’s no better time to get out and about! With so many exciting things on the go in the next couple of weeks, you don’t want to miss out. Here’s what’s cooking this week:
October 18: Wild Caraway at Sugar Moon Farm
Wild Caraway is the restaurant in Advocate Harbour that you’ve always wanted to visit. Here’s your chance! Sarah and Andrew will present a multi-course menu at Sugar Moon Farm based on the ingredients available in their region during that season. This dinner tends to sell out early. Dinner tickets are $75. Wine pairing is $25 (3 pairings). 15 per cent gratuity and HST additional.
October 19: Open Brewery Day
Many breweries across Nova Scotia are taking part in Open Brewery Day on October 19. This will give the public a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the brewing process while getting to know our local brewers. Sample some of their amazing products while celebrating the milestones of our local craft brewers. Plan a trip to visit a couple of your favourite Taste member breweries:

October 19: Inspire Your Senses at Grand Pre Wines
Inspire your senses and experience Grand Pre’s flavours – from grape to wine. Match fresh grapes with finished wines for a chance to win some wine. Join them at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. for an extended, complimentary vineyard tour with a rare visit to their cellar and winemaker.
October 19: Raging Crow Distillery’s Anniversary Celebration
Join in the festivities for Raging Crow Distillery’s first birthday at their open house on Saturday, October 19th from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. Celebrate by trying a sip of their infamous dill pickle vodka!
Now – October 31: Nova Scotia Harvest Wine Festival Events
Happy Wine Harvest! Ongoing from now until the end of October, you can join Taste of Nova Scotia members as they plan a collection of wine inspired events, dinners, tours, packages and more. For a full list of events, click here.
Devour! The Food Film Fest (October 22-27) This is an international festival celebrating cinema, food & wine culture in Wolfville. The annual six-day festival hosts 100+ events, high profile chefs and celebrated filmmakers from around the world. Be sure to check out the schedule to see what Taste members are putting on events near you!
Celebrating Tidal Bay (October 24) Celebrate Nova Scotia’s appellation wine with a wine-inspired menu at The Flying Apron. The class will include tastings of their favourite Tidal Bay wines! This hands-on classes offer you the opportunity to practice new skills as you cook alongside their chef in a three-hour class. Chef Chris leads the class and you work in pairs to prepare the feast. When you’re finished cooking you get to relax and enjoy a meal with your classmates. Recipes for the dishes made in the class are included.
Spirited Away in Lunenburg (October 25-27) A weekend celebration of Nova Scotia Craft Spirit Distillers and the cocktails we create with them! Events, workshops, gala and food will be enjoyed.
The Harvest High Tea at Planters Ridge Winery (October 26) Indulge in an afternoon Harvest High Tea which includes a complimentary glass of bubbly, finger sandwiches, scones, mini desserts and fine teas! Relax to live music and partake in wine tasting for an additional fee.
4th Annual Farm to Table Dinner (November 1): Please join the Old Orchard Inn and The Kidney Foundation of Canada – Atlantic Branch’s 4th Annual Farm-to-Table Dinner, a taste of all things local! The evening begins with tasting stations featuring LOCAL vendors serving craft beer, wines and spirits; a delicious harvest meal featuring local ingredients; and wraps up with our spirited live and silent auctions.
The Wines of France (Starting November 5): This is a 6-week, in-depth course designed for the beginner wine-enthusiast looking to develop their knowledge and understanding of French wine at Obladee Wine Bar. Class will be held each Tuesday evening from 6-8:30 beginning November 5, 2019 and ending December 10, 2019.
Holiday Festival & Christmas Open House (November 8): Start your holiday season with Jost Vineyards Holiday Festival Weekend and Christmas Open House. Sample complimentary punch and nibbles and enjoy holiday music. Tastings, door prize, wine sales, and more!
