A Taste of Nova Scotia this Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the harvest and to remember everything we’re grateful for. At Taste of Nova Scotia, we’re grateful for the fresh and delicious ingredients that are available locally in our beautiful province.
Whatever your traditions, we hope you consider local options for your Thanksgiving feast:
The Beautiful Bird
The Pork Shop is serving up grain-fed, free range turkeys – and do they ever look delicious. They also have chicken, geese, turkporkin (yup, it exists!), and smoked bone in hams.
Perfect Produce
Fresh is without question the best when it comes to your Thanksgiving produce. For squash, carrots, potatoes and turnip and a lot more, check out Masstown Market, or a local farmers’ market to impress your guests.
Get Saucy
A spoonful of cranberry sauce is a must-have for turkey dinner. Terra Beata Cranberry Farm uses their Heckman’s Island cranberries to create a signature cranberry sauce, also available with no sugar added for those with dietary concerns. Or – pick up a bag of their cranberries and follow your family recipe.
Pass the Rolls
When considering soft dinner rolls or the right bread for stuffing look no further then Boulangerie La Vendeene’s French authentic certified organic breads.
Looking to make things gluten-free? Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet is a delicious alternative.
Cheers!
There is no better time to break out a bottle of bubbly. Take a Nova Scotian sparkling – like L’Acadie Vineyards Vintage Cuvee and add a splash of Ironworks Distillery cranberry liqueur for a festive holiday cocktail.
Save Room for Pie
Pumpkin, blueberry or apple – Thanksgiving is all about the pie (and maybe the turkey…). Stirling Fruit Farms is dishing up pies made with freshly picked Annapolis Valley Apples. For gluten-free? Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet’s Pumpkin Pie will rock your socks off.
Sweet Treats
Chocolate turkeys could be a new Thanksgiving tradition. Great for a sweet treat – or edible table decorations, Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop can satisfy all your turkey day chocolate cravings.
Turkey-to-go
Want the compliments but not all the work of a turkey dinner? Season’s by Atlantica, Saege Bistro and Tempo Food + Drink are all doing turkey to take home. Let one of our chefs help make your dinner delicious and relaxing!
Skip the Dishes
Hit the road and celebrate Thanksgiving with a delicious meal prepared with local ingredients and skip the clean up. Atlantica Hotel and Marina Oak Island, Digby Pines Golf Resort, Liscombe Lodge Resort, gio, White Point Beach Resort, and the Ye Olde Argyler Lodge are all putting on Thanksgiving brunches, lunches or dinners.
Just wondering when I will receive the recipes. They look so good.
Thank you.
