Picnics & Patios: Halifax
It’s time to celebrate Nova Scotian summer! Whether you’re looking to enjoy an intimate picnic for two or get the girls together for patio drinks with a view, there are lots of options in Halifax.
Picnic Pleasure:
Before enjoying the views at Point Pleasant Park, stop by Gourmandises Avenue Chocolaterie to pick up a box of gourmet chocolate treats. Located at the Seaport Farmers Market, they specialize in delicate chocolate truffles, macaroons and perfectly-balanced chocolate bars in the traditional French style. The perfect treat to satisfy your sweet-tooth.
In need of a date idea? How about a classic wicker-basket picnic on Citadel Hill overlooking the bustle of the city or watching the sunset? This daydream can easily become a reality thanks to Scanway Catering and Grafton Cafe. They provide picnic menus complete with environmentally friendly disposable plates and cutlery. Scanway uses local ingredients to produce and present a Halifax-made picnic experience. Picnic baskets are available upon request and make it easy to complete a summer day.
About 15 minutes out of Halifax, overlooking the Bedford Basin, DeWolf Park is a perfect place to watch sailboats out on the water and for a family picnic. Kitchen Door makes it easy to treat the family with delicious made-from-scratch food offerings – from sandwiches to salads, hor d’oeurves to baked goods, dips and dressings to pantry items, products are made in-house with local ingredients. Made fresh for take-away or delivery!
Patios:
Thanks to places like Durty Nelly’s Authentic Irish Pub, Garrison Brewing Company, Battery Park Beer Bar & Eatery and Stubborn Goat Beer Garden, you can dine on local food and/or sip your favourite local beverage in the sunshine (or under the night sky).
If you’re looking for a view, the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market is the place to go. Overlook the Halifax Harbour and have a great view of Georges Island; grab lunch at any of the local vendors inside and then head upstairs to enjoy the ocean air.
