It’s finally March Break! We have all of the activities and events you need to keep your kids entertained while they’re home from school on our March Break blog. But don’t worry, we have activities and events for you adults too… just keep reading! Because why should the kids have all the fun?
March 20: A Cape Breton Ceilidh
Once a month Rankin MacInnis rustles up some of the finest Celtic musicians from across the province for a rip-roarin Ceilidh at Obladee, A Wine Bar. Fiddles and pipes, guitars and bodhráns, dancers, yelps and whoops – it’s all in! If you can’t picture how the little wine bar transforms itself into a Cape Breton community hall… well, you’ll just have to get down there and see for yourself!

March 22 – 23: Gary Steffen Live

March 23: Demystifying Cool Climate Chardonnay & Riesling
Let Planters Ridge and Sommelier Sarah Blanchard guide you through an approachable educational session on the origins of well known yet complex grape varieties Chardonnay and Riesling, their heritage in France, beginnings in Nova Scotia and take a look at the climatic influence of both regions.

(March 28): Get Your Greek On with Obladee, A Wine Bar and a three-course Greek Wine Dinner featuring the wines of Domaine Kalathas & Greece-inspired flavours from Chef Bryan Steiss. Plus, interactive discussion from Sommeliers Heather Rankin & Erin Beazley, and live Mediterranean music.
Meet Your Farmer Dinner (March 30): The Flying Apron’s popular Meet Your Farmer Dinner evening is a favourite event of the year. An evening where local food is celebrated with a wonderful buffet and lively food conversations. Each of the guest farmers/producers will give a brief talk about their business and speak to a pressing Nova Scotia issue in their sector.
Antigonish Craft Beer Festival (March 30): Announcing the first Craft Beer Festival in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The event will feature 12 top-notch craft brewers from across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Attendees will have a chance to sample their products, enjoy live entertainment, and take home a souvenir glass.
5 Week Introduction to Wine Course (April 2): Obladee, A Wine Bar is excited to offer their third introductory wine course! This is a 5-week, in-depth course designed for the beginner wine-enthusiasts looking to develop their knowledge and understand wine basics. The course is developed and led by certified, professional sommeliers Heather Rankin and Erin Beazely and will cover wine sensory and theory fundamentals including wine making basics, tasting techniques, core grape varieties, food pairing, and regional highlights.
Kitchen Door’s Event Studio (April 4): Kitchen Door’s Event Studio is opening with a variety of different classes, such as Demo & Dine and the Food Lab Series, there’s something for everyone!
Bend & Brunch with the Yoga Hen (April 7): Enjoy a one-hour yoga session with Holly Ross of The Yoga Hen Adventures in the tranquil winery tasting room at Avondale Sky, followed by a delicious pre-set brunch prepared by Chef Justin Floyd. One non-alcoholic beverage of your choice is included in the ticket price. Mimosas and a selection of wines by the glass will also be available for purchase. This will be a fun-filled morning that will be sure to beat the winter blues!
