January 22nd: Farmworks Info Session at Boxing Rock

This Wednesday, stop by Boxing Rock Brewing Company in Shelburne from 5 to 7 p.m. for an information session with Farmworks Gentle Dragons. If you’re interested in starting a food and farm related business, hearing from other food producers, learning about the benefits of investing locally and more, stop by the brewery for this session.

January 22nd & 26th: Events at Obladee

January 22: Bagpipes and wine might sound like an unlikely pairing, but not at Obladee! The Cape Breton Ceilidhs are one of their most popular nights, drawing a toe-tappin’ crowd. They round up the finest Celtic musicians this side of the causeway and transform the wine bar into a proper Cape Breton knees-up! Music 8 to 11 p.m. Kid-friendly till 9 p.m.

January 26: Join Véronique Trudel for yoga & wine to expand the mind, body – and palate! Classes run from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. and are followed by a trio of wines from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Class fee is $30. January 24th: Yoga & Wine at Planters Ridge Winery

Join Planters Ridge Winery and yoga instructor Suzi Fevens for candlelit wine and yoga this winter. Whether you are a seasoned yogi or this is your first time ever stepping on a mat, this class is for you! Following your practice you’ll enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fireplace.

Classes will be offered on Friday evenings once a month, for five months, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Book each class individually or save $15 and book all 5 together.

January 25th: Burns Night with Founders House

Burns Night is back! This year, the night will feature scotch-tasting with NSLC whisky sommelier Leslee Fredricks, Scottish-themed canapes prepared by Founders House Dining’s Chef Chris Pyne, bagpipes and more. Event will take place at Fort View Golf Course. Tickets are $60 each ($30 without scotch-tasting) and are available through King’s Theater.

January 26th: Sourdough Bread Making

 

On Sunday, January 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. explore sourdough bread making at the Flying Apron Inn & Cookery with Jess Ross of Gold Island Bakery. Includes a starter to take home! Note: This class will not include a full meal, however, Flying Apron Soup will be served with bread!

Call to book your spot (902-633-2300). Preregistration and prepayment or credit card confirmation is required at the time of booking. Cancellation policy: 72 hours prior to the class.

Make it a Culinary Getaway and spend the night at the Inn! A hot breakfast in the restaurant is included.

Wine & Lobster Event (February 2): Join Petite Rivière Vineyards for their 3rd Annual Wine & Lobster Event. Enjoy five Petite Riviere wines paired with lobster stuffed appetizers created by Director of Culinary at Oak Island Resort, Chef Nathan Guggenheimer! Tickets: $70.

An Introduction to Wine (February 3): This 5-week, in-depth course, from Obladee, is designed for the beginner wine-enthusiast looking to develop their knowledge and understanding of wine basics. Class will be held Monday evenings 6 – 8 p.m., Feb. 3, 2020 – March 9, 2020.

Chef night at Sugar Moon Farm (February 7): Join Chef Craig Flinn for a maple inspired dinner with Nova Scotia wines and more… all in a beautiful sugar camp setting. Dinner tickets: $75 Wine pairing: $25 15% gratuity, HST, + all other beverages are additional.

Savour Food & Wine Festival (February): In its 17th year, Savour Food & Wine Festival brings together Nova Scotia’s talented mixologists, incredible brewers, award-winning winemakers, and phenomenal chefs and their dishes over a series of five incredible events during the month of February.

Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl (February 1 – 29): Sip, savour, shop, stay and enjoy more than 100 lobster-related experiences from Barrington to Peggy’s Cove.

Nova Scotia Icewine Festival (February 14, 15, 16, 22, and 23): Taking place in the heart of the Annapolis Valley at Lightfoot & Wolfville Winery and featuring wines from across Nova Scotia, paired with thoughtful edibles from local chefs, the Icewine Festival is an incredible way to spend an afternoon (or a weekend) tasting, touring, and experiencing Nova Scotia Wine Country in the winter.
