FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 28, 2025
Masstown, NS – In partnership with Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia, Taste of Nova Scotia is launching the province’s fourth culinary trail: the Nova Scotia Cheese Trail.
“Taste of Nova Scotia is thrilled to partner with Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia to launch the Nova Scotia Cheese Trail,” says Emily Haynes, Executive Director of Taste of Nova Scotia. “Together, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible talent, creativity, and economic impact of our local cheesemakers. The trail is a fun and engaging way for locals and visitors alike to explore our province, experience its unique taste of place, and discover the rich foodways that make Nova Scotia’s culinary offerings so memorable.”
The trail celebrates the province’s blossoming cheesemaking industry, raising awareness, showcasing talented makers across the province, and inspiring consumers to explore the trail and enjoy local cheese.
“Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia (DFNS) is pleased to support the Nova Scotia Cheese Trail,” says Jo Ann Fewer, General Manager of Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia. “This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible diversity and quality of cheeses being made in our province. The Nova Scotia Cheese Trail celebrates our farmers, our cheesemakers, and the dedication that goes into producing world-class dairy products.”
In its inaugural year, the Nova Scotia Cheese Trail features seven cheesemakers and 14 trail stops across the province. The trail winds through cities, valleys, farmland, and coastal communities, offering visitors and locals a taste of the province’s diverse landscapes alongside its rich cheesemaking culture. Each trail stop was selected for its ability to connect visitors directly with cheesemakers, whether through tours, tastings, or markets.
“The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is proud to have supported Taste of Nova Scotia’s other culinary trails and is thrilled to see the launch of the Cheese Trail,” said Alana Hirtle, Member of Parliament for Cumberland–Colchester, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, P.C., K.C., Member of Parliament for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. “Our province’s culinary landscape is one of our greatest assets, and initiatives like this trail not only showcase our world-class cheesemakers but also strengthen rural communities, encourage visitors to discover local flavours, and help build a
sustainable, year-round tourism industry.”
At each trail stop, visitors can taste locally made cheeses, meet the makers, and, in some locations, see the cheesemaking process in action. Along the way, they can collect stamps using the Cheese Trail passport, website, or Taste of Nova Scotia app for a chance to win prizes. “After the tremendous success of the Nova Scotia Chowder, Lobster and Good Cheer Trails, it only makes sense to add a Nova Scotia Cheese Trail,” said the Honourable Colton Leblanc, Minister of Growth and Development. “Nova Scotia has some of the finest dairy products in the world, and our cheeses are truly second to none. This new trail will help both Nova Scotians and visitors to our province discover the incredible variety and quality of cheeses we have to offer. I encourage everyone to explore as many of our local cheese makers as possible and fill your Nova Scotia Cheese Trail passports with stamps. I look forward to seeing you on the trail!”
The year-round trail officially launches today, August 28, 2025, with funding support from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the Government of Nova Scotia, and Nova Scotia Loyal.
Trail participants have been recruited through Taste of Nova Scotia and Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia nd must meet certain criteria to participate.

About the Nova Scotia Cheese Trail
We acknowledge that the Nova Scotia Cheese Trail takes place across Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw People. This territory, covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, has been the home of the Mi’kmaq for thousands of years. We honour their stewardship of these lands and waters, which continue to shape foodways and our taste of place. The Nova Scotia Cheese Trail is a collaborative initiative between Taste of Nova Scotia and Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia, designed to spotlight the creativity, craftsmanship, and economic impact of our local cheesemakers. Developed with funding support from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the Province of Nova Scotia, and Nova Scotia Loyal, the trail features seven cheesemakers and 14 trail stops across the province. At each trail stop, visitors can taste locally made cheeses, meet the makers, and, in some locations, see the cheesemaking process. Along the way, they can collect stamps using the Cheese Trail passport, website, or Taste of Nova Scotia app for a chance to win prizes.
