It’s hard to believe that July is already halfway over – luckily there are a handful of great events to ease our minds as time flies by! This week we’re hopping aboard a fishing boat in Yarmouth, tasting our way through Tidal Bay and much more. Read on to see What’s Cooking this week.
July 16: Unpredictable Dining
Join Tangled Garden, Mike Schroeder and Blomidon Estate Winery for an evening of exciting flavour combinations served in an unpredictable and enchanting nook in the garden. Cocktails and canapés take place at 6 p.m. with the evening wrapping up at 9 p.m. Limited seating is available. July 16: Lightkeeper’s Seafest
Step aboard a fishing boat in Yarmouth, welcomed with Nova Scotia oysters and wine. Tour the coast dotted with fishing communities en-route to Cape Forchu Lightstation where your sunset feast awaits, complete with live Acadian songs. Savour mussels and seafood-stuffed lobster, expertly paired by your host chef and sommelier with award-winning Nova Scotia wines. As night falls, your dark sky expert will share seafaring stories and legends of the stars. Presented by The Keeper’s Kitchen.

July 19: Finest Kind At Boxing Rock

July 20: Wild Feast Above The Vines
Hosted by Planters Ridge, dine with spectacular vineyard views while enjoying a six-course menu created by Chef Nelson Penner from Wild Feast N.S. Each course features wild and foraged foods from Nova Scotia, while being thoughtfully paired with Planters Ridge wines. Tickets $130 + tax per person. July 20: Tidal Bay Wine Tasting
Join Founders House on the patio at 2 p.m. on Saturday for a taste of Tidal Bay. They’ll start with an educational introduction of Nova Scotia’s Tidal Bay appellation wine. Followed with a pairing and tasting notes from their head bartender Gavin, as you sip on eight different two-ounce Tidal Bays. Chef Chris will be preparing bountiful cheese boards to be shared by every table of four. 48 seats available for $69 per person. Reserve your spot before seats run out!

Wines and Steins Tour (Every Friday from June to October): Nova Scotia’s Avon River Valley is becoming the next great place to enjoy wine and craft beer! This tour will whisk you away to this charming part of the province to discover a few hidden gems!
Stroll, Stretch & Savour with The Yoga Hen (July 28): Join Holly Ross of The Yoga Hen Adventures at Avondale Sky Winery for an active, fun-filled morning. Start your day with a hike of the scenic Avondale Trail System, followed by an all-levels yoga session among the vines and finishing with a guided tasting in our tranquil winery, the former St. Mathew’s Church.
Farmed. Foraged. FEAST (July 28): On Sunday, July 28th Meander River Farm & Brewery and Chef Lachlan Culjak will be collaborating for an unforgettable dining experience. The evening starts with a welcome drink from Meander River Brewery. Afterward, explore the surrounding fields and forest to learn about local wild edibles with an engaging wild food tour from East Coast Wild Foods. You will also receive a farm and brewery tour from Meander River Farm and Brewery.
Lobster Lovers Feast (August 4): This annual fundraiser for Bonny Lea Farm is not to be missed. A Lobster Lovers’ Feast features 1¼ pound Clearwater lobster (hard shell), salads, dessert, and beverage. Kitchen party entertainment. A limited number of 10oz AAA striploin steaks are also available.
FEAST! A Cole Harbour Long Table Dinner (August 24): Held in the central Cole Harbour Heritage farmyard under the marquee tent, enjoy the delicious flavours of a Nova Scotia August against the backdrop of 200 years of farming heritage. This 4-course feast is sourced directly from the farm gardens and our farming partners. Included in the price of your meal is a drink ticket for a glass of local craft beer or cider (additional alcoholic beverages may be purchased). Non-alcoholic beverages plus tea and coffee included. Avondale Garlic Festival (September 21): Mark your calendars for the 7th Annual Avondale Garlic Fest, coming up on Saturday, September 21st! Celebrate Nova Scotia’s many garlic growers while enjoying live music, fine art, great food, cooking demos and more at Eastern Canada’s largest garlic festival, all happening on the picturesque Avondale Sky Winery grounds.
