What’s Cooking September 4 – 11?

September has arrived, and as we wind down those last few days of summer we are  also excited for all that this fall will bring. This first week of September is filled with delicious events all across Nova Scotia, from cooking classes to hop picking – there is no shortage of ways to enjoy local food and drink.

September  is Apple Month  at Taste of Nova Scotia and we can’t wait to share all of our delightful locally inspired recipes, experiences and ideas with you all month long!

September 5: Naming the Twins at Keltic Lodge

Visit Keltic Lodge  this week and enjoy some fresh coastal Cape Breton seafood, some wine from local wineries and a meal seasoned with herbs grown at the lodge all while listening to “Naming the Twins”. We’re pretty sure it’s the most perfect way to spend an evening in Nova Scotia.

September 7: Gluten, What Gluten? Cooking Class


Kitchen Door is offering another incredible cooking class. With many people aware of the gluten in their diet, this class showcases unintentionally gluten-free dishes and cooking to maximize flavour without the addition of gluten. Menu includes: Roasted Root Salad, Braised and Glazed Beef Short Rib, Caramel Apple Cheesecake trifle with brown sugar oat crumble

September 8: Hike, Eat, Stay

In partnership with Hike Nova Scotia, Liscombe Lodge Resort Nova Scotia proudly hosts this special “Hike-Eat-Stay” weekend getaway. Includes: Liscombe River Trail guided hike with Lori Taylor, a BBQ back at the Lodge and a bonfire to wrap up the evening. When you’re ready to cozy in for night you will be lulled to sleep by the beautiful sounds of the Liscombe River. This adventure is available with or without accommodation.

September 8: Who is Baha’u’llah

Take a night to enjoy some seafood, chowder and Nova Scotia wines at Lane’s Privateer Inn and take in a theatrical presentation followed by Rumi Concert. With a view of the Mersey River and a glass of local wine or beer in your hand, this promises to be a lovely evening. There are no tickets for this event. September 9: Hop Picking Party

Join Meander River Farm and Brewery for their annual hop picking party on Sunday, September 9! Get your hands on this farm to glass experience and take part in the creation of the annual brew of Homegrown Wet Hopped Ale! Taps will be flowing and a great time will be had. Meet hop pickers from years past, other beer enthusiasts and new friends. Many hands make light work, all are welcome!

September 9: Sunday Roast and Irish Sessions 

Head over to the Townhouse Brewery and enjoy a Sunday Roast of locally raised meats. Dinner is  ready for 5pm Sundays and live Irish music from 6:30. They  tend to be full before 6pm and people tend to linger for the music, so if you’re keen, consider coming in early (or possibly later – after 8 or so, as the kitchen is open until 10)

September 9: Epic East Coast Feast

Retreat to the water’s edge and delight in an epic evening of artisan eats and local libations at the Argyler Lodge & Restaurant. Spend the evening overlooking beautiful Lobster Bay, drinking Nova Scotia Wine and eating freshly prepared seafood from the Eastern Shore and Bay of Fundy by chef Jonathan Joseph. Then, gather around the fire pit to enjoy some good cheer and sample Nova Scotia beer and locally-inspired cocktails, under the darkest skies in North America. $125 per person plus hst and gratuity. Chef Night With Wild Caraway (October 14) —  Sugar Moon Farm will be hosting a chef night featuring the Wild Caraway Restaurant and Café. The menu will be created around what’s available in their gardens, the seashore and the forest at that time.

Christina Martin at Sugar Moon Farm (November 16) —  Join ECMA and Music NS Award Winning Songstress Christina Martin for an up-close-and-personal experience! Includes a Farm-to-Plate Buffet! Detailed menu coming soon.
