From chilly winter excursions to relaxing nights filled with jazz, there is still lots happening near you this week! Take a break from your holiday hangover to get to know some of the exciting activities your province has to offer.

Don’t forget to warm up with a rich and flavourful bowl of chowder because it’s time to celebrate Chowder Month at Taste of Nova Scotia!

January 9: Trivia Night at The Nook & Cranny

Tuesday nights, make your way to Truro’s The Nook & Cranny Brew Pub, and test out your trivia skills. While in the area, grab a cocktail at Bistro 22, pick up some fresh produce at Stirling Fruit Farms Ltd., and/or visit the nearby Coldstream Clear Distillery.

January 10: Sunday Family Dinner

Learn how to cook an amazing Sunday family dinner at The Flying Apron from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on January 10. Menu: roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, garlic mashed potatoes, herb-roasted vegetables, and for dessert, chocolate pecan bread pudding with vanilla ice cream.

January 12 & 13: Live Music

Enjoy a night of live music at The Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar. Every Friday and Saturday night, catch house musicians Mike Cowie and Gerry Carruthers perform vocals, trumpet and piano in the dining room.

January 15 to March 15: Dine Around

As part of the Savour Food and Wine Festival, Dine Around returns for another year! Participating restaurants in Nova Scotia are offering three-course prix-fixe menus and small plates. Some participating Taste of Nova Scotia members include: SHUCK Seafood + Raw Bar, Gio, Lot Six Bar & Restaurant, Chives Canadian Bistro, and The Stubborn Goat Gastropub.

January to May: Winter Surf Lessons at White Point

This winter, discover a new hobby at White Point Beach Resort. Surfing lessons during this time of year are being offered for the first time. After catching some waves, relax with a warm and tasty meal on location at Elliot’s Dining Room.

January: Dinner & Neptune

From January 16 to February 11, Neptune Theatre will be performing a humorous play titled Jonas & Barry in the Home. Make it a dinner date and head in for some yummy eats at close by restaurants such as: Durty Nelly’s, Lot Six Bar & Restaurant, and/or Primal Kitchen.

5th Annual Craft Beer & Local Food Celebration ( Jan. 18) – It’s hard to believe that it’s year five! To celebrate this, there will be 100 VIP tickets for a special early bird session, more cideries than in previous years, and a number of local eateries new to the event.

Explore Sable Island at White Point Beach Resort (Jan. 21) – Join White Point for their 2nd Annual Salute to Sable Island Weekend.

Winter Wine and Yoga (Jan. 21)  – Take part in an hour-long yoga session by the fireplace at Planters Ridge, followed by a tour and tasting. Yoga hosted by Yoga Room of Essence. Tickets available online now $35 plus tax per person.

Sip n’ Shuck (Jan. 26) – Prepare to Sip n’ Shuck your way through one of the most memorable culinary events in Nova Scotia!

Lobster Lovers Get-A-Way at Atlantica Oak Island (February) –  Sometimes we all just need a break from the everyday routine. Run away to Oak Island for a little hibernation.

Savour Food & Wine Festival (Feb. 22) – Bringing together some of Nova Scotia’s talented mixologists, incredible brewers, award-winning winemakers and of course phenomenal chefs and their dishes over a series of five incredible events.

Gourmet Weekend with Celebrity Chef (May 4-6) – Celebrity Chef Vikram Vij will headline Fox Harb’r Resort’s 2018 Spring Culinary Weekend.
