2015 Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards: Celebrating Culinary Excellence

Halifax, N.S. – The Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards celebrates excellence in the Nova Scotia culinary industry. It is the only province-wide awards program that recognizes Nova Scotia producers and restaurants providing exceptional culinary experiences. Winners, from consumer and industry nominations, were announced during the DEVOUR! The Food Film Fest on November 6, 2015.

“We have so much talent, so much passion and so many authentic ingredients in our own backyard,” says Janice Ruddock, executive director of Taste of Nova Scotia. “These awards represent some of the best culinary experiences in our industry. It’s an opportunity for us to recognize that passion…the hard work, dedication and pride that Taste of Nova Scotia businesses have for their products, experiences and for making our province a culinary destination.”

Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards for 2015 were presented in the following categories:

Restaurant of the Year – Chef Inspired Fine Dining
Le Caveau Restaurant (Grand Pré, NS)

Restaurant of the Year – Chef Inspired Casual Dining
The Flying Apron Inn & Cookery (Summerville, NS)

Restaurant of the Year – Essence of Nova Scotia
Sugar Moon Farm (Earltown, NS)

Innovative Product of the Year
Pomme D’or Apple Cream Liqueur, Grand Pré Wines  (Grand Pré, NS)

Consumer Choice Product of the Year
Haskapa Chutney, LaHave Natural Farms (Blockhouse, NS) 

Producer of the Year
Blomidon Estate Winery (Canning, NS)

Server of the Year
Lowell Simpson, Hall’s Harbour Lobster Pound & Restaurant (Hall’s Harbour, NS)

“We were simply blown away. It shows that what we are doing here is working and it’s the right thing to do,” says Chris Velden, chef and owner of The Flying Apron Inn & Cookery. “We are proud to be in Nova Scotia. It’s a great province to cook and live in. We have a lot to show off here. We have culinary diversity and great producers.  We have an industry that comes all together around food……Taste of Nova Scotia brings all that together.”

Nominations for the Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards were received from Taste of Nova Scotia members and the public. The nominations were brought to a judges’ panel and then approved by the Taste of Nova Scotia Board of Directors.
