What’s Cooking April 3 to 10?

Spring is in the air! After what feels like a long winter of hibernating, the sun is finally out and so are these fun spring events. Take a cooking class featuring pizza and beer, spend a day in the boots of a lobster fishermen or take it easy with great food and live music.

Also, grab your oyster shucker, dig out your favourite chowder recipe, break out your lobster bib and get cracking –  because it’s SEAFOOD MONTH at Taste of Nova Scotia. We’re not shell-fish (pun-intended) – we’re sharing all our Nova Scotia seafood secrets this month!

April 5: Pizza & Beer

Pizza and beer is a classic and delicious pairing. Chef Chris from The Flying Apron will demonstrate dough making and cooking pizza in three different ways at their cooking class. Beer and Cider samples from their list of locally crafted beverages will be served.

April 5: Live & Local Thursdays

From 6 to 9 p.m. at Kiju’s, enjoy free admission and live local music! While there, enjoy a lobster duo: a plate of sweet lobster cake and broiled lobster mac ‘n cheese with Gouda and herbed panko.

April 6 to 8: Great Canadian Lobster Fishing Feast

Step in the boots of a Nova Scotia lobster fisher for a day on this authentic lobster fishing experience! Work alongside the crew aboard a lobster fishing boat, in season, before bringing in your catch for a chef-prepared, ocean side feast at White Point Beach Resort.

April 8: For the Record, A Vinyl Journey

Every Thursday at Obladee, take part in a sonic voyage through the soulful, warm and experimental side of music primarily found in Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop, Bossa Nova, and Soul. Come for the wine, stay for the journey.

April 10: MAMMA MIA!

Neptune Theatre’s performance of MAMMA MIA! begins this week. Grab all your ABBA fans and join in on the musical fun. After the show, have a drink at nearby spots The Stubborn Goat, Lot Six or Durty Nelly’s.

 

Chocolate & Wine Seminar (April 14) – Join Certified Chocolate Makers at Planters Ridge for an in-depth look at the history and biology of bean-to-bar chocolate making. You will also have the opportunity to pair wines with the chocolate and learn how the flavours can compliment each other.

Saltscapes Expo (April 20 to 22) – Get a taste of some of the best culinary experiences Nova Scotia has to offer at the annual Saltscapes Expo.

2018 Nova Scotia Craft Beer Week (April 27 to May 6) – Hosted by the Craft Brewers Association of Nova Scotia, it is the largest celebration of craft beer in eastern Canada. It features over 15 events hosted all over Nova Scotia and draws thousands of craft beer enthusiasts.

DELISH: An Epicurean Soirée (April 28) – An all-inclusive evening of sweet & savoury dishes, wine, cocktails, cider + more!

FULL HOUSE Craft Beer Fest 2018 (May 5) – The flagship event for Nova Scotia Craft Beer Week is returning for its fourth year, showcasing a huge selection of beers from all around the province.

12 Tides (May 11) – Discover Nova Scotia’s premium white wine at the Tidal Bay Annual Release and Tasting Event, hosted at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel on May 11, 2018, from 7-10pm.

Devour! Fox Harb’r Weekend Getaway (May 18 to 20) – Fox Harb’r Resort is delighted to host once again the Nova Scotia created food & film festival, a celebration of culinary and cinema, with an added splash of comedy. Hosted by CBC personality, stand-up comic, actor and chef Ali Hassan.

East Coast Cider Festival (June 16) – That’s right folks, the East Coast Cider Festival back for another year. 2018 will be bigger and better, there will also be the option to choose between one of two sessions.
