What’s Cooking: September 11-18

Savouring September
Hello September! Summer is coming to an end, but Nova Scotia flavour isn’t. This week’s What’s Cooking roundup brings you delicious events that mark the start of autumn in Nova Scotia. Think hearty meals and community gatherings, perfect for fuelling the season ahead.

Great Taste of Canada Experience: Pjila’si Unama’kik – Welcome to the Land of the Fog
Experience Unama’kik (Cape Breton Island) through culture + cuisine on September 27, 2025. A full-day journey of food, stories, and traditions – only 4 days left to secure your tickets!
Created in close partnership with the Nova Scotia Indigenous Tourism Enterprise Network (NSITEN), Eskasoni Cultural Journeys, Mi’kmaq community leaders, and Parks Canada, this immersive culinary experience honours the stories, traditions, and foodways of Mi’kma’ki.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, guests will begin the day with an enriching visit to Eskasoni Cultural Journeys, where community hosts will share teachings, language, and lunch through a cultural lens rooted in connection to the land.
In the evening, gather at the historic Fortress of Louisbourg for a one-of-a-kind long-table feast led by Chef Geordy Marshall of Eskasoni. Each course will celebrate Indigenous ingredients and food traditions, weaving stories of history, healing, and culture. Guests will be welcomed by Elders, guided through traditional ceremony, and invited to dance and reflect through live Mi’kmaq music and storytelling.
This experience invites you to listen, learn, and share a meal that speaks to the spirit of place.

Support Local
By eating out at local restaurants, you’re not only supporting those restaurants but also the local producers and suppliers they purchase from. When you support local, more of your money stays in the province and circulates back through Nova Scotia’s economy.
