Mulled Cider

In the cooler months, it’s always nice to find recipes that comfort. There is nothing more comforting, particularly during the holiday season, than a mug of mulled cider. Mulled cider is an incredibly simple way to to bring delicious local apple cider to the next level. Not only it is comforting and extremely tasty, but a pot of steaming apple cider will fill your home with aromas of apple and spice.

Ingredients

1L apple cider
1 cinnamon stick (or bark)
5 whole cloves
2 star anise
orange peel
fresh or frozen cranberries
pure maple syrup* (optional)

Directions

  1. Gather cinnamon, cloves and start anise into a cheesecloth bundle.
  2. Heat cider and spice bundle to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Continue to heat the cider for 20 minutes.
  3. Serve warm cider in mugs. Garnish with several cranberries.

*If you find your mulled cider to be too tart for your liking, you can adjust the sweetness by adding a little bit of maple syrup.
