Trolling the seas of foodie adventure (Part 2)

How’s your stamina holding up? If you haven’t yet made your way to Taste of Nova Scotia’s Food Fare by the Sea for Tall Ships 2012, the great news is there is still two days to explore and enjoy!

Propeller Brewing Co.
Propeller is sampling their Halifamous brews of the beer and soda varieties. I was treated to something we christened the “Ship Power,” a blend of the Honey Wheat Ale and the Extra Special Bitter. If it’s not quite five o’clock in your world, quench your thirst with Propeller’s spicy Ginger Beer or a frothy Root Beer.

Brooklyn Warehouse
Brooklyn Warehouse is offering rich and delicious fish cake burgers served with lettuce, smoked tartar sauce, and pickled onions. To quench your thirst, be sure to pick up some Trinity Gold lemonade, it’s sure to become a new summer favourite.

Fid Resto
Fid’s slow roasted pork on a baguette Bahn Mi-style sandwiches are proving to be a crowd favourite – and for good reason. Fresh baguette is the perfect match for Fid’s rich pork, with fresh carrots, daikon, hot red peppers and cilantro. If you like food with heat, they’re happy to oblige!

Cheelin Restaurant
Cheelin is known around Halifax for its fresh, authentic Szechuan food, but it’s also a great supporter of local food products. Hot spring rolls, chicken skewers, fresh dumplings, and a wide selection of dishes featuring local meats and vegetables, it’s the perfect stop for a quick snack or a full meal.

Scanway Catering and Saege
Scanway has brought their best treats for those with a sweet tooth, including homemade waffles with strawberries and cream as well as Unni’s famous florentines. Wash it down with a delicious homemade lemonade with fresh local strawberries.

Scanway is also behind the bar at the FEED NOVA SCOTIA Wine and Beer Garden, offering more grownup drinks, like Propeller beer, Grand Pré’s Tidal Bay, and signature cocktails using Ironworks spirits and liqueurs. The Rogue Wave is made with Ironworks rum and Propeller Ginger Beer, and the Ironworks Blueberry Hard Lemonade uses Ironworks’ delicious vodka and blueberry liqueur.

Cape Breton Resorts
It’s not summer without ice cream and Cape Breton Resorts has a great selection of gelato and sorbetto made on-side, as well as soft serve ice cream.

White Point Beach Resort
White Point brings local fare with an exotic influence with its BBQ jerk chicken rolls served with Valley apple salsa. Fans of Nova Scotia seafood will need to make room in their stomachs for White Point’s salt cod cakes served on a bed of organic greens and topped with a rich lemon-garlic mayo.

King’s Produce Processing
Be sure to stop by King’s Produce Processing for sandwiches and salads to compliment your meals. To ensure you have steady energy for a day of boarding ships and dreaming about sailing the open seas, grab a handy fruit or vegetable plate, or a yogurt and granola cup.

Saltscapes Restaurant
The folks at Saltscapes had great portable lunch options. For the fish-in-or-out-of-water types, the seafood wraps feature a chowder’s worth of delights including lobster, scallops, shrimp, and haddock. The chicken wraps are sweet and tasty, with a hint of pepper and Spanish onion.  For a sweet treat, Saltscapes is offering their Big Uglee Mints and chocolate chip cookies.

The Taste of Nova Scotia Food Fare by the Sea runs from Thursday, July 19 to Monday, July 23, 2012. Food Fare is open from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and from 11 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
