What’s Cooking In Nova Scotia September 15-22
As the weather changes, so do our food and beverage preferences. This week in Nova Scotia, enjoy an array of warming harvest dinners, chilled drinks and comforting atmospheres inspired by the upcoming fall season. Here’s what’s cooking:
September 18-19
Winner of the first Master Chef Canada competition, chef Eric Chong, will be preparing a four-course meal with chef Carmelo Olivar’s Five Fisherman Restaurant team. Tickets are on sale now for $85 or $115 (with wine pairings).
September 19
Planters Ridge Winery is celebrating their OysterFest with a full day (and tummy) of fresh oysters, cider and wine. The event runs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and tickets are $35 plus tax.
September 19
Halifax’s third annual Sausage Fest will feature Nova Scotia pork from Meadowbrook Meat Market as well as local beer from Propeller Brewing Company and Garrison Brewing Company. Check out the participant list for more details and to see what our restaurants and markets are cooking up!

Port Pub is celebratnig our local farmers and producers including Noggin’s Farm and Fox Hill Cheese with a Locavore 5 km Dinner. The meal and dessert are sourced within 5 kms of local food and drinks.

Spend Open Farm Day visiting a farm near you. Sampling and tours are being offered at various locations such as Sugar Moon Farm, Blomidon Estate Winery , Grand Pré Wines, Avondale Sky Winery and L’Acadie Vineyards.
September 25-26
The NSLC Port of Wines Festival features over 300 wines from around the world paired with Nova Scotia-inspired food items from Sober Island Oysters, Morris East and Harbour City Bar & Grill.

Starting Friday at 11:00 a.m., the Halifax Waterfront will be filled with traditional German food, music, and Garrison’s Hemmerschlagen Brau to celebrate the 2015 Halifax Oktoberfest.

- October 2, 2015: This year’s Planters Ridge Loop Harvest Dinner includes a five course dinner prepared by chef Michael Howell. Each course will be paired with a Planters Ridge Wine and a Devour Food & Film Fest short film.
- October 2-4, 2015: Treat your palate with local food and wine while supporting a good cause. Avondale Sky Winery and D’Vine Morsels have partnered with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help raise awareness and proceeds for their Cook for the Cure event.
- October 3, 2015: All you can eat oysters plus local craft beer and wine at the Halifax Oyster Fest on the waterfront.
- October 3, 2015: Harvest Festival – Come to the Wolfville Farmers’ Market to help celebrate the bounties of the harvest with gorgeous wines, craft beers and locally sourced food pairings prepared by area chefs.
- October 4, 2015: Celebrate with Avondale Sky Winery on their fourth anniversary. They’ll be roasting a pig and sampling wine, with proceeds going to the Building Fund of the Avondale United Church.
- October 15– Try Propeller Brewery‘s Nocturne Lager during Nocturne Halifax’s opening night while celebrating the arts scene in Halifax.
- October 16-18, 2015: Get Spirited Away in Lunenburg with Nova Scotia’s first ever Craft Spirits Festival.
- October 23-24, 2015: Ready to jig? Join in the fun at this year’s Re-Jigged Festival– It’s going to be bigger, better and best of all…. it’s happening in downtown Dartmouth.
- October 29, 2015: Delta Hotels presents – Raise a Little Hellp. Not your average fundraiser – with award winning musicians, regional food and drink, and a lively silent auction.
- November 4-8, 2015: This November join Devour! The Food Film Fest for five days of film, food and wine. DevourFest. Eat it up!
