Halifax, November 3, 2016 – The Taste of Nova Scotia Awards celebrates culinary excellence in Nova Scotia. It is the only province-wide awards program recognizing Nova Scotia producers and restaurants providing exceptional culinary experiences. This year’s winners, from consumer and industry nominations, were announced during the DEVOUR! The Food Film Fest on November 3, 2016.

“It’s important to recognize our members and to celebrate their contributions to the culinary industry of this province…to celebrate the rich diversity of our products and experiences and the authenticity of the people who create them,” says Emily Haynes, executive director of Taste of Nova Scotia. “We need to be proud of what we have in Nova Scotia. We need to appreciate that each winner, and each Taste member, represents something unique in the industry and distinctive to their region. We need to recognize excellence and be proud of what we have in order to continue to grow the culinary industry in Nova Scotia.”

The following Nova Scotia businesses received 2016 Taste of Nova Scotia Awards:

Restaurant of the Year
Agricola Street Brasserie (Halifax, NS)

Product of the Year
Pancake & Cookie Mix, Valley Flaxflour  (Middleton, NS)

Server of the Year
Amy Funk, Lincoln Street Food (Lunenburg, NS)

Producer of the Year
Bay Enterprises Limited (Malagash, NS)

Culinary Ambassador of the Year

“Nova Scotia is just the most beautiful place on earth. There’s so much diversity, and there’s nothing you can’t find here,” says Charles Purdy, owner of Bay Enterprises Limited. “It has taken my family 150 years to get to this. Every one of my ancestors has been involved in farming and harvesting oysters. Receiving an award like this is a tremendous moral boost and it’s really hard to put into words. It gives you the feeling of being appreciated – like being given a great big hug.”

Nominations for the Taste of Nova Scotia Awards were received from Taste of Nova Scotia members and the public. The nominations were brought to a judges’ panel and then approved by the Taste of Nova Scotia Board of Directors.
