August is Blueberry Month at Taste of Nova Scotia and we are berry excited to share all of our awesome locally inspired recipes, experiences and ideas with you all month long!
August 15: From Plant To Plate
Join Haskapa as they share their Haskap berry story, From Plant to Plate. Learn all about the berry by taking a tour through their main haskap berry orchard. You’ll also have the chance to chat with their knowledgeable staff about the perfect pairings for their products, local partnerships and where they’re headed. After your informative afternoon, the Haskapa team will treat you to tastings of their delicious products.
August 16: Jazz Night & Caesars
It’s Caesar month at Compass Distillers and if you haven’t had a chance to try one yet, we highly recommended it! They even have three different types of Caesars to accommodate everyone’s taste buds! The House Caesar features kimchi brine, balsamic and spicy bitters, The Oy Veg for vegetarians and the Augustus is topped with an oyster for a true Nova Scotian touch — of course all made with Compass spirits! While you’re there make sure to check out Jazz Night, every Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This week features Geordie Haley & Martha Kelly.
August 17: Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival
Blueberry season is here and we are berry happy about it. To celebrate, The Wild Blueberry Producers Association of Nova Scotia’s Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival has a month of festivities to appreciate this delicious berry. There will be live music, community dining experiences, farmers markets, bake sales and of course a pie-eating contests! Also, be on the lookout for the Taste of The Festival participants – they’ll be creating scrumptious wild blueberry menu items all festival long!

- Jost Vineyards’ Blueberry Festival will be taking place August 18 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – wine, live music and blueberry goodies are on the menu!
- Sainte-Famillie Wines will be hosting a hosting a Blueberry Festival on August 26, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Petite Riviere Vineyards, Sober island Brewing, and Barrelling Tide will also be on hand sampling products made with Nova Scotia blueberries.
- U-Picks: Want to get in on the fun? Stop by Lunenburg County Winery’s high-bush blueberry u-pick, open everyday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or visit the Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival website for more information on u-picks across the province.
August 18: Cool Jazz & Korean BBQ
On August 18, Saltbox Brewery has a full day of events planned you wont want to miss out on! Beginning at 2 p.m., Constance Creek will put on a show while you sit back and enjoy some Korean BBQ. The night continues with Nicola and Friends playing Cool Jazz as you sip on delicious local craft beer.
August: The Biscuit Eater Café & Books
The Biscuit Eater Café & Books is a beautiful and welcoming family café dedicated to bringing the most fresh and local food to the community of Mahone Bay. They work with local farmers, bakers and producers including Boulangerie la Vendéenne, Schoolhouse Gluten Free Bread and a variety of local farmers’s markets so you know where everything on your plate comes from. They also specialize in homemade and handmade classic dishes with a Nova Scotia twist like their lobster mac & cheese and blueberry maple croissant french toast.

Feast! A Cole Harbour Long Table Dinner (August 25) — Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum is hosting a long table dinner featuring the delicious flavours of Nova Scotia summer.
Avondale Garlic Festival (September 15) — Join Avondale Sky Winery as they host the Garlic Festival. Great music and garlic-inspired food all on the beautiful grounds by the vineyards.
Chef Night With Wild Caraway (October 14)— Sugar Moon Farm will be hosting a chef night featuring the Wild Caraway Restaurant and Café. The menu will be created around what’s available in their gardens, the seashore and the forest at that time.
