What’s Cooking: February 3rd – 9th

February brings us three fantastic culinary inspired festivals – the Savour Food & Wine Festival, the Nova Scotia Icewine Festival and the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl. Events for these festivals are filling up our calendar all month long! Join local mixologists at Imbibe, enjoy local craft brews at the Craft Beer Cottage Party, take part in a chowder showdown, and more! Keep reading to find out what’s cooking this week.

February 6th: Imbibe – A Cocktail Event

A Savour Food & Wine Festival Event.

Experience an evening of delicious local cocktails at the legendary Imbibe: A Cocktail Event! Enjoy 30 sample size cocktails made by local mixologists from more than 25 restaurants/bars, including several Taste of Nova Scotia members. They’ve brought together some of Nova Scotia’s best for one night only to create this special evening just for you. Must be 19+ to attend event. Snacks and DJ included.
Tickets: $65 + taxes and fees – General Admission
Location: The Lord Nelson Hotel
Time: 7 – 9:30 p.m.

Feb. 8: Ironworks Distillery Spirited Crustaceans

A Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl Event.

Join Lunenburg’s very own lady fishmonger Kelly Conrad, owner of Dory Mates’ Seafood Shop as she prepares tantalizing lobster appetizers matched with a pairing of Ironworks sample cocktail and tasting tour in their new Quarrie Room while listening to the evocative voice and acoustic guitar of singer songwriter, Kristen Martell. Event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This event also takes place on February 15 and 22.

February 8th: Craft Beer Cottage Party

A Savour Festival Event.

Head back to those long summer days by the lake at the Craft Beer Cottage Party! Sample local brews while you play a game of washer toss, chill in an Adirondack chair and listen to a live band. There will be picnic tables and delicious local food available for purchase. Ticket price includes unlimited beer samples. Bring your best plaid and your best beard! Must be 19+ to attend event.
Tickets: $60 + taxes and fees – General Admission
Location: Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market
Time: 7 – 9:30 p.m.

Feb. 9: Lobster Chowder Chowdown Showdown

A Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl Event.

Stop by this weekend’s For the Love of Lobster event to take part in the second annual Lobster Chowder Chowdown Showdown. Event will will also include spirit sampling, a municipal market, silent auction, lobster tails & stories and more. For the Love of Lobster will take place at the Forest Heights Community School in Chester Basin on Sunday, February 9th from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Cooking with The Flying Apron (February): Join The Flying Apron Inn & Cookery Ltd. for their cooking classes! Learn about sustainable seafood, pasta-making, sourdough bread-making, quick & simple suppers and more! See their Facebook page for more details about these events.

Kitchen Door Cooking classes (February): With classes on everything from tacos to vegetarian dishes, there’s lots to choose from this month at Kitchen Door. They also featuring several different styles of cooking class, that allow you to make and take, eat your creations on site, and more.

Savour Food & Wine Festival (February): In its 17th year, Savour Food & Wine Festival brings together Nova Scotia’s talented mixologists, incredible brewers, award-winning winemakers, and phenomenal chefs and their dishes over a series of five incredible events during the month of February.

Nova Scotia Icewine Festival (February 14, 15, 16, 22, and 23): Taking place in the heart of the Annapolis Valley at Lightfoot & Wolfville Winery and featuring wines from across Nova Scotia, paired with thoughtful edibles from local chefs, the Icewine Festival is an incredible way to spend an afternoon (or a weekend) tasting, touring, and experiencing Nova Scotia Wine Country in the winter.

Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl (February 1 – 29): Sip, savour, shop, stay and enjoy more than 100 lobster-related experiences from Barrington to Peggy’s Cove.
