Wolfville, October 25, 2018: The Taste of Nova Scotia Awards celebrates the vibrant culinary industry in Nova Scotia. This year’s winners, from consumer and industry nominations, were announced during DEVOUR! The Food Film Fest on October 25, 2018.

“Food is our culture and our history. It shapes our landscape and coastal communities. It tells the story of who we are and where we’re from,” says Emily Haynes, executive director of Taste of Nova Scotia. “These awards tell the story of five Taste of Nova Scotia members…their passion, their vision, their creativity, their talent and their commitment to the Nova Scotia culinary industry.”

The following Nova Scotia businesses received 2018 Taste of Nova Scotia Awards:

Producer of the Year
Comeau’s Sea Foods Ltd. (Saulnierville, NS)

Server of the Year
Brian Unsworth, Harbour City Bar & Grill (Halifax, NS)

Restaurant of the Year
D’Vine Morsels at Avondale Sky Winery (Newport Landing, NS)

Product of the Year
Spring GiNS
Compass Distillers (Halifax, NS)

Gary MacDonald Culinary Ambassador Award
Renée Lavallée, The Canteen (Dartmouth, NS)

“This award is the award I have been hoping to win for the past few years,” says Lavallée, recipient of the Gary Macdonald Culinary Ambassador Award. “It’s not just an award for me. It’s a lot about being recognized…but it’s the fact that this award is named after Gary and everything he has done. To me, after this, there’s nothing else.”

Nominations for the Taste of Nova Scotia Awards were received from Taste of Nova Scotia members and the public. The nominations were brought to a judges’ panel and then approved by the Taste of Nova Scotia Board of Directors. For more information about Taste of Nova Scotia and its members visit
