What’s Cooking July 24 to July 31?

This week, we have a range of events for everyone! Join in on a fun birthday celebration, indulge in some collaborative dinners or try a Nova Scotia twist on a Canadian classic, Lobster Poutine! Looking for a more relaxing weekend? No problem. Relax under the stars with the kids, or take up a new and seriously delicious hobby – wine tasting.

And don’t forget to grab your lobster bibs and passports because here at Taste of Nova Scotia, July is dedicated to our world-famous lobster! All month we’ll be indulging in delicious lobster dishes and interactive experiences. We can’t wait to share our lobster love with you!

July 26: Collaborative Dinner Series

Chef Mark Grey from The Watch That Ends The Night will be teaming up with chef David Woodley for vol. 7 of the Four Hands Collaborative Dinner Series. Inspired by The Drinking Food Of Thailand, they will be cooking up a delectable seven-course meal. MENU: Smoked Octopus Tom Yum Gung, Stir-fried Mussels, Fried Banana with ginger ice cream. Need we say more?

July 27: Lobster Poutine

Two-time Juno award-winning singer-songwriter Old Man Luedecke will be taking the stage Friday night at The Union Street Cafe. Before you get into the singing and dancing portion of the evening, make sure to fill up on their NEW menu item, Lobster Poutine – made with hand cut Annapolis Valley potatoes, Fox Hill Cheese House curds, Nova Scotia Lobster and smothered in lobster gravy. If your mouth is watering already, head over and bring your Lobster Trail Passport.

July 27: Nature Night

Sugar Moon Farm welcomes Paul Health, an award-winning astronomy teacher for a fun an fascinating evening of education and activities about our beautiful starry sky! The family-friendly Nature Night will include a tasty pancake meal, delicious adult and children friendly drinks, presentations and star viewings outside. Don’t miss out on a beautiful night out under the stars.

July 27-28: Hops & Chops Festival

Hops & Chops Festival brings together local bands, food, beer and people for two wonderful nights of fun. The festival takes place right in the heart of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia at Mateus Bistro where they will be serving up fresh, local and  delicious food all weekend that you’re not going to want to miss out on. Music: Saucy Jack, Stand Back,  Darren Arsenault Trio, caribou Run, The Brood, and Know Issue

July 28: Patio Party

The Old Fish Factory is turning 25 and they want everyone to celebrate with them! The night will begin with live music on the patio along the Lunenburg Harbour with dancing, fresh samples, giveaways AND an oyster bar. Then the after party will continue on upstairs at the Ice House Bar where Garrison Brewing Company will be serving up Pucker Up all night. Don’t miss out on all of the celebratory fun!

July 31: Introductory Wine Course

Obladee, A Wine Bar is excited to introduce their first ever Introductory Wine Course! This 5-week, in-depth  course is designed for the beginner wine enthusiast looking to develop their knowledge and understanding of wine basics.  The course will be lead by a certified sommelier and will cover wine sensory, core grape varieties and to top it off, lots of food pairings. Don’t miss out on a grape opportunity to learn all about amazing wines!

Food Day Canada (August 4)— Get ready for Canada’s Local Food Day! This annual celebration of local food features chefs and home cooks  honouring our farmers and fishers by serving local ingredients.

Nova Scotia Summer the Traditional Cantonese Banquet Menu (August 7)— The Orient Chinese Cuisine is changing up their menu for the evening and taking on a traditional Cantonese feast.

Flavours, Tuscan Addition (August 18)Planters Ridge Winery is hosting a unique dining experience overlooking the vineyards featuring Tuscany inspired flavours.

Feast! A Cole Harbour Long Table Dinner (August 25) — Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum is hosting a long table dinner featuring the delicious flavours of Nova Scotia summer.

Avondale Garlic Festival (September 16) — Join Avondale Sky Winery as they host the Garlic Festival. Great music and garlic inspired food all on the beautiful grounds by the vineyards.
