As the temperature begins to drop, and the snow begins to fall, get cozy with friends and family while enjoying the many local restaurants and producers that Nova Scotia has to offer. The holiday season is just around the corner, and it’s about time to celebrate! See below to find out What’s Cooking this week.

November 14 – November 20: Halifax Taco Week

Halifax Taco Week starts this Thursday – enjoy tacos for a whole week while raising funds for Feed Nova Scotia. Some of the Taste of Nova Scotia restaurants that are participating include Battery Park Beer Bar & EateryBrooklyn WarehouseThe CarletonDurty Nelly’s: An Authentic Irish PubHarbour City Bar & Grill, Lot Six Bar & RestaurantSHUCK Seafood + Raw Bar and Stubborn Goat Gastropub. November 20: The Big Cheese

Learn how to cook a variety of delicious meals while enjoying a relaxing getaway with The Flying Apron Inn & Cookery during The Big Cheese night. Sit back, relax and let chef Chris make your dinner! In the  2 hour demo class, you’ll have the chance to both watch and learn from the chef himself. Share a full meal with your classmates and take home the recipes for the dishes made in the class. It will run from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m, and the cost is $65. Call to book your spot (902-633-2300).

November 22nd: Sparkling Riesling Tasting

Obladee Wine Bar is having a tasting event for this limited release of Blomidon Estate Winery‘s Sparkling Riesling! Winemaker Simon Rafuse will be pouring on-site from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Pop in and try this special wine along with snacks by chef Josh McCarty!

November 22: Cooking with Kitchen Door

On the menu this week at Kitchen Door is Mexican Street food! Bursting with flavour and convenience, food truck dishes are perfect to bust out at home on a weeknight. Join them as they take the mystery out of ceviche, mix it up with delicious tacos, and top it off with the unforgettable Churro! The event will run from 6:00p.m.- 9:00p.m. and tickets are $100. Kitchen Door also has a Date Night in Rome (November 26) class coming up. Take a stroll through classic Italian cooking with your partner. This class features simple ingredients treated with Italian elegance, perfect for a night out! The class will run from 6:00p.m- 9:00p.m. and the cost is $87.50 and tickets can be purchased on their website.

November 23: Master Class Tasting – Evolution of Sparkling

Join Benjamin Bridge‘s head winemaker, Jean-Benoit Deslauriers, and chef Jason Lynch from Le Caveau Restaurant at Grand Pré Winery for an exciting tasting event – Evolution of Sparkling. This seminar-style master class is designed to impart deeper traditional method sparkling knowledge with an inside look at the practices, philosophy and the unique Nova Scotia terroir. Chef Jason Lynch will prepare delicious pairings to enjoy alongside each sparkling. This is also a great opportunity to try and purchase some bubbly for the holidays!

November 23/24: Grapevine Wreath Making

Avondale Sky Winery & Restaurant is offering their annual Grapevine Wreath Making sessions over the course of two weekends, with this weekend being the first one. There is no registration needed, just show up between 11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to create your very own festive wreath. Visit their tasting bar for a special 5 for $10 wine sample flight and browse their retail shop for wonderful holiday gifts. Can’t make it this weekend? The fun continues on November 30 and December 1!

Local Nova Scotia Craft Fairs

Looking to give someone a special, truly Nova Scotian gift? Below are some holiday craft fairs coming up this week where you might find a few of our Taste of Nova Scotia members!

Christmas Old World Wine Pairing (November 28 & December 6): Mabata’s chef Cam and chef Ben invite you to join them for a Christmas themed culinary journey. The five course meal will focus on using local ingredients and old world wine pairings. Tickets are $110 and can be purchased through email at talk@mabata.com or call (902) 443 0044.

Ethnic Cuisine Series (November 28): Join Founders House Dining & Drinks as chef Chris heads back to his roots as a classically trained French Chef. He will bring a French Cuisine 3-course adventure to kick off their Ethnic Cuisine series. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased through their Facebook page.

Holiday Open House at Planters Ridge (November 30): For the first time, Planters Ridge Winery will be having their Barrel Cellar opened to the public to explore and bask in its enchanting aromas. You’ll get the chance to try pre-released wines and enjoy lovely shareable foods.

Chocolate & Wine Pairings at Planters Ridge (December 7): Explore the decadently sweet and savoury art of wine and chocolate pairing. Planters Ridge Winery will be tasting different wines matched with chocolate and chocolate-infused dishes – from classically sweet flavour combinations to unexpected savoury surprises. Tickets are $20.

Try Before You Buy Wine Event (November 30): Join Lane’s Privateer Inn for the 2nd annual Try Before You Buy Wine Event with Harvest Wines of Halifax. There will be a vast selection of wine, beer and cider with appetizers to accompany your libations. Live music will only add to this fun kick off to the holiday season!

Vineyard, Vintage, Variety (December 1)Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards is hosting a 3V’s tasting series that offers an exclusive event to taste and purchase rare vintages at the winery. For tickets, visit their website.

Chef Nights at Sugar Moon (December 6-7): Join Sugar Moon Farm December 6 & 7 for Chef Claude’s Christmas Chef Nights! Experience incredible cuisine, exquisite wines and live music all in a sugar camp setting. Dinner tickets are $75 and wine pairings are $25. See their Facebook page for more details.

Christmas Open House with Gaspereau Vineyards (December 7th): From 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the December 7th, join Gaspereau Vineyards & Vine Side Patio for their holiday celebration! More event details to come.

Annual Chinese New Year 2019 – Year of the Rat (January 20 & 21, 2020): Come celebrate Chinese New Year 2020 – Year of the Rat with The Orient Chinese Cuisine! Enjoy a 10+ course dinner made by chef Ivan Chan. Tickets: $88/person.
