Thanksgiving weekend may be over, but the food and drink celebrations are only just beginning here in Nova Scotia! This week, sip on a drink while painting your own masterpiece or watch world-class mixologists work their magic at Spirited Away, there’s tons to do!
AND our Taste of the Month for October is HARVEST – Pull on your boots, grab your sweater, head outdoors & explore the province as the season changes!
October 18: Restaurants for Change
As if dining out wasn’t sweet enough already! On October 18, grab some friends and head out for supper at Agricola Street Brasserie, Battery Park, Brooklyn Warehouse, The Canteen or EnVie – the proceeds from your dinner will all go towards Dartmouth North Community Food Centre.

October 19: Gold Medal Plates
Gold Medal Plates is the ultimate celebration of Canadian excellence in cuisine, wine, the arts and athletic achievement! On October 19, 2015, be sure to cheer on nine of the top chefs in Nova Scotia as they vie for the top spot. Taste of Nova Scotia chefs Barry Mooney (Gio), Chris Kyprianou (The Five Fishermen Restaurant), Craig Flinn (Chives Canadian Bistro), Ivan Chan (The Orient Chinese Cuisine), Johnathan Canning (NSCC’s Fresh Twenty One), Shane Robillard (Fox Harb’r) and Shaun Zwarun (Kiju’s Restaurant) will be among the nine chefs.

October 19: Spirited Away in Lunenburg
Spirited Away returns to Lunenburg for more adventures with local craft spirits, the distillers who make them and the mixologists who use them so artfully! Keep an eye out for some of Taste of Nova Scotia’s members: Authentic Seacoast, Barrelling Tide Distillery, Caldera Distilling, Coldstream Clear Distillery, Glenora Distillery, Halifax Distilling Company, Ironworks Distillery, Steinhart Distilling, Still Fired Distilleries & Tangled Garden!
If you can’t make it to Lunenburg for the festival, be sure to stop by the event kick-off at The Port by NSLC in Halifax on October 19. To sweeten the deal, Ironworks Distillery will be there to launch their newest product, RUM BOAT RUM – a smooth, naturally golden spirit aged on the formidable waters of the North Atlantic!

October 21: ilovelocalhfx’s City Harvest
Who doesn’t love celebrating Harvest?! On October 21, locally owned businesses around Halifax and Dartmouth will be running special deals to help promote the community around them. Whether it’s enjoying a bite to eat of something fresh and in season in Nova Scotia, or getting a start on your Christmas shopping, there’s lots to enjoy during this event! October 22: Atlantic Canada Beer Awards Gala
Join the region’s top brewers at the Atlantic Canadian Beer Awards Dinner & Gala on Sunday, October 22nd! Taking place at The Stubborn Goat Gastropub. This multi-course dinner will be perfectly paired with some of the region’s award-winning beers. If you haven’t already, be sure to also cast a vote for your favourite beer – we spotted Taste members Boxing Rock Brewing Co., Garrison Brewing Co., Paddy’s Brewpub, Propeller Brewing Company and Saltbox Brewing Company among the nominees!
