We’re kicking off August in style with a handful of fun events happening all over the province. If a six-course meal, a seafood & wine extravaganza and a twilight hike are up your alley – this is the week for you. Read on to see What’s Cooking this week.
August 9: Devour the Vines
Mark your calendars for the third summer of Devour the Vines at Domaine de Grand Pré Winery celebrating cinema, wine and great food amongst the vines. Chefs Jason Lynch and Michael Howell for a five-course meal paired with award-winning wines and delicious short films curated by the Devour! The Food Film Fest team. Can’t make it on August 9th? August 9: Six-Course Dinner at Mosher House
In the comfort of an early 1800’s farmhouse overlooking Avondale Sky’s vineyard, enjoy a six-course blind tasting menu prepared by Chef Justin Floyd. Wine pairings thoughtfully selected for each course are available to perfectly complement your meal. A selection of Avondale Sky wines, local craft beers and ciders, and non-alcoholic options will also be available. Tickets are $80 plus tax.

August 10: Twilight & Tasting Hike
A twilight and tasting hike at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site! Embark on an exclusive guided wilderness hiking experience to one of Kejimkujik’s best kept dark sky secrets. The inviting, yet mysterious, Peter Point trail will lead you through a twilit forest as the growing shadows and singing frogs announce nightfall and peacefulness. To conclude this natural outdoor experience, you will be invited to enjoy a selection of locally crafted beers from Boxing Rock Brewing paired with tantalizing treats while your knowledgeable guides enlighten you with a quick tour of the night sky.

This Friday and Saturday, make sure to mark the 13th annual Halifax Seaport Cider & Beerfest on your calendar as Atlantic Canada’s largest craft beer and cider celebration returns to the Cunard Centre. August 12: Lobster Bay Culinary Experience
Step out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary with a Lobster Bay Culinary Experience presented by the Argyler Lodge & Restaurant. Enjoy local Nova Scotia wine, learn to build a fire and cook a whole lobster properly all while sitting on the beach watching the sunset. Whether this is your first lobster or your fiftieth, you won’t forget this incredible culinary and seaside experience! Tickets $150 per couple.

Wines and Steins Tour (Every Friday from June to October): Nova Scotia’s Avon River Valley is becoming the next great place to enjoy wine and craft beer! This tour will whisk you away to this charming part of the province to discover a few hidden gems!
Avondale Sky Wine Lab Adventure (August 17 & 18): Join Winemaker Ben Swetnam for an exclusive, hands-on wine experience, revealing how Nova Scotia’s signature Tidal Bay blends are made. Create your own blend in their wine lab to be entered in a blind tasting competition with your peers. Savour a gourmet multi-course meal by Chef Justin Floyd and thoughtfully paired with a selection of Avondale Sky’s wines. Finish your day as a winemaker by taking home a bottle of your very own custom labelled signature blend to share with your family and friends. There are only 12 spots available for each date so grab your ticket quick!
FEAST! A Cole Harbour Long Table Dinner (August 24): Held in the central Cole Harbour Heritage farmyard under the marquee tent, enjoy the delicious flavours of a Nova Scotia August against the backdrop of 200 years of farming heritage. This 4-course feast is sourced directly from the farm gardens and farming partners. Included in the price of your meal is a drink ticket for a glass of local craft beer or cider (additional alcoholic beverages may be purchased). Non-alcoholic beverages plus tea and coffee included. Family Fun Day Fundraiser (August 25): Join Benjamin Bridge Winery for Family Fun Day, with the HFX Wanderers Football Club! Price is $15 per person, kids under 5 get in for free. They have a fundraising goal of $15,000 and 100% of ticket sales benefit the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Tickets available here.
Liscombe Hiking Adventure (September 7): In partnership with Hike Nova Scotia, Liscombe Lodge is hosting a “Hike-Eat-Stay” weekend getaway. Hike with them as they explore the Liscombe River Trail and cross the suspension bridge overlooking the waterfall and nearby fish ladder with guide Lori Taylor.
Avondale Garlic Festival (September 21): Mark your calendars for the 7th annual Avondale Garlic Fest, coming up on Saturday, September 21st! Celebrate Nova Scotia’s many garlic growers while enjoying live music, fine art, great food, cooking demos and more at Eastern Canada’s largest garlic festival, all happening on the picturesque Avondale Sky Winery grounds.
