What’s Cooking: July 17 – 23

You don’t want to miss what’s cooking this week! From local businesses re-opening, to limited-time only specials, and even exciting summer contests – Nova Scotia’s food and drink industry has been busy! Keep reading for upcoming events taking place across the province, a grocery list full of in-season local produce, and a delicious evening cocktail recipe!

Highlights

Kitchen Door

Kitchen Door’s meal program allows you to order, receive, heat, and serve fresh and delicious meals for even the busiest of people. They’ve recently added the perfect addition to your prepared meals – local cider! You can now order Chain Yard Urban Cidery and Lake City Cider products through their online shop, and get them delivered right to your door. Cheers!

Heartwood

Halifax’s oldest vegetarian restaurant, Heartwood Restaurant, has reopened their third location! Along with their Quinpool and Waterfront locations, you can find them once again in the Hydrostone on Gottingen Street. Their Hydrostone hours are Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Make sure you pay them a visit!

Lake City Cider

Lake City Cider has released a Pride Pack with a $50 value for just $35! The Pride Pack includes an 8-pack of District Pride Rose, two pairs of sunglasses, two mini pride flags, and lake city stickers. It’s available during the Pride Festival until July 26, have it delivered, or purchase it at their retail store!

Charlotte Lane Café & Gift Shop

Charlotte Lane is having their grand re-opening this Friday, July 24! They are taking calls for reservations from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. every day leading up to the opening. The dine in hours will be Tuesday – Saturday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., and the gift shop will be open from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. They’re ready to welcome you back!

Jost Vineyards

For a limited-time only, Jost Vineyards is offering a buy one get one free special on their Selkie Frizzante and Selkie Rose! This offer is available only at their on-site retail location, so stock up while quantities last!

Rebecca’s Restaurant

Rebecca’s Restaurant has launched a new Summer Giveaway: Rebecca’s Summer Lovin’ List! This list is full of challenges, from attending a Wing Night to enjoying a Brunch Special. After completing an item on the list, a server will sign it for you. Once your list is completely filled out, you can submit it to a server for a chance to win a $200 giveaway! The contest runs until September 7, make sure you check their Instagram (@rebeccasrestaurant) for further details.

The Orient Chinese Cuisine

Good news! The Orient has finished renovating their dining room and they’re getting ready to safely welcome you back for dine-in service. They are officially taking reservations starting this Friday, July 24. You can book by calling 902-443-3288.

Events

Lobster-Licious Cape Breton

Lobster-Licious is a new local food event running from July 4 – 26, featuring non-traditional and delicious lobster dishes from various food establishments across Cape Breton Island. For every lobster dish purchased at participating restaurants, have the vendor stamp your passport. Three stamps will give you one entry to win a Gourmet Getaway and you’ll receive additional entries for every stamp received after the first three.

Enjoy your lobster-filled tour around the island and make sure you stop by Taste of Nova Scotia members: Glenora Distillery, Governor’s Pub & Eatery, Kiju’s Restaurant, La Goélette à Pépé Café, and Inverary Resort!
