Celebrate Father’s Day with Local

Cape George Lighthouse

We all have people in our lives who are slightly more difficult to shop for – dads we’re looking at you. Even if he won’t admit it, your dad is probably tired of getting the same patterned ties every holiday. Luckily, there are plenty of outstanding Nova Scotia businesses that are scheduled to re-open just in time for Father’s Day! No matter what your dad is into, we’re sure our members have him covered.

Keep reading for some fun, locally-inspired ways to make your 2020 Father’s Day celebrations special.

Golf Getaways

Fox Harb'r Resort Golf Course

Golf courses are now open and we’re sure your dad is itching to get back on the course if he hasn’t already. Turn his Father’s Day tee-time into a trip to one of the many local resorts offering accommodations in June (staycations are in this year!). This month, Fox Harb’r Resort is inviting all golfers to play on their championship course, an experience your dad will never forget!

Digby Pines and White Point Beach Resort both feature golf courses at their resorts, and there are a few courses just a short drive from Amherst Shore Country Inn that will be open for visitors in time for Father’s Day, with certain safety restrictions in place. Whether he’s there for the golf, beaches, food, or simply to get-away, your dad is bound to make some memories!

Cheers to Dad!

Beer Bus Grape Escapes

Local beer, wine, cider and spirits: the ultimate last-minute gift that never lets anyone down, including dad. With so many incredible beverage alcohol producers across the province, you can easily cater to his taste!

Spirits

For the spirited father, consider gifting him a Rum Trio Gift Pack from Coldstream Clear Distillery, a bottle of moonshine from Still Fired Distilleries, blended whiskey from Glenora Inn and Distillery (use code DADWANTSWHISKY for orders over $70!) or a variety pack you create yourself from a few different Nova Scotia distilleries.

Beer

If your dad is more of a beer person, not to worry, your options are limitless! Surprise him with a growler from Paddy’s Brewpub, a 6-pack from Propeller Brewing Co.,  some apparel from Tatamagouche Brewing Co., or a gift card to a few different breweries and let dad choose!

If your dad has a love for beer and learning, Boxing Rock Brewing Company has launched a Virtual Beer School which includes a variety of lessons and home-delivered beer for tasting! Just make sure you’re prepared to hear all the beer facts at your next family get-together.

Cider

Does dad love cider? Cideries like Annapolis Cider Company, Bulwark Cider, Noggins Corner Farm Market, Maritime Express Cider Co., Lake City Cider, and Chain Yard Cider have a variety of delicious options that make excellent gifts.

For a mix of beer and cider or beer and wine try Planters Ridge Winery for a bottle of their rummed cider and wine or Casa Nova Fine Beverages, Meander River Farm and Brewery or Saltbox Brewery for a mixture of their beer and cider.

Wine

Don’t forget about wine! For an afternoon adventure, consider taking dad to a Nova Scotia winery for a vineyard walk, paired with samples of an array of delicious Nova Scotia wines.

Alternatively, Bishop’s Cellar is currently promoting their Tidal Bay case that features 11 Tidal Bays from Nova Scotia’s wineries + 1 additional bottle.

Nova Scotia tour operators are beginning to book culinary adventures for the 2020 season. Take dad for an experience he’ll never forget with Grape Escapes Wine Tours, Taste Halifax Food Tours, Wine and Beer Tours of Nova Scotia, Go North Tours, Ambassatours, or the Wolfville Magic Winery Bus.

Sweet Treats

People rarely think to gift their dad with sweets, even though he’s the one who ate all your Halloween candy growing up. Many Taste members are providing easy options for sending treats to dad – trust us when we say he’ll appreciate it! We suggest checking out Sweet Spot Chocolate ShopJust Us! Coffee, Petite Patrie Chocolate, Sable ShortbreadMrs. MacGregor’s Shortbread, The Cake Lady or Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet.

Another great option is a Rum Runners Rum Cake Factory assorted gift basket. Sweets mixed with Rum are a Father’s Day match made in heaven!

If you’d rather make dad a homemade treat, try our recipe for Bacon Fat Caramels – yes, you read that right (pictured above). These easy to make caramels do not disappoint.

Dine In

The wait is finally over and we can now enjoy the atmosphere of some of our favourite local restaurants. Whether your dad prefers casual or fine dining, restaurants are working to (safely) provide the experience he’s looking for.

Browse our member directory for restaurants near you, and treat dad to a delicious Father’s Day meal! If he’d rather stay in, check out our Get Your Hands on Local at Home page to see businesses who are continuing to offer takeout.

If you’re unable to see your dad in person this Father’s Day, purchase a gift card to a local restaurant and enjoy a meal next time you’re together!

Homemade Father’s Day Supper

If there’s one thing the Nova Scotia dad enjoys, it’s seafood. Impress your father by whipping up a lobster supper, and make sure it’s fresh from Clearwater Seafoods, Afishionado Fishmongers, or Fisherman’s Market! Not confident in your lobster cooking skills? Hall’s Harbour Lobster Pound and Restaurant or Shore Club Lobster Suppers will do the work for you – dad will never know.

If seafood isn’t his thing, Kitchen Door is offering a Father’s Day Grilling Package featuring smoked pork ribs and chicken, along with some delicious sides! This is perfect for the dad who enjoys any time spent at the grill – let him cook his own Father’s Day supper!
