What’s Cooking: April 15 – 22

It’s another great week to celebrate local food and drink here in Nova Scotia! This week’s What’s Cooking features events, sales, business re-openings for the spring and summer season, and special new offerings from our members. We’ve also included a delicious and simple Atlantic Sea Scallop BLT recipe from Comeau Sea Foods.

Highlights

Chain Yard Urban Cidery

Do you want to sample refreshing ciders and learn all about them? Chain Yard Urban Cidery is offering Pommelier Paired Tastings! This is a one of a kind tasting experience with the second designated pommelier in Canada, who also happens to be Chain Yard’s general manager!

You’ll get to learn cider 101, tasting concepts like aroma, flavour, residual sweetness, structure and what foods to pair best with your favourite ciders. You’ll also get to sample five unique Chain Yard ciders paired with carefully selected local flavours from Unchained Kitchen to showcase a true Nova Scotia cider & food experience. Winegrunt

Will you be in the Annapolis Valley area this weekend? Stop by Winegrunt on Friday or Saturday night to enjoy live entertainment and great food! You can find John Tetrault with his guitar and vocals at That Friday Feeling from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Matt Martin will bring his classical and jazz guitar work from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be no cover charge, but reservations are recommended.

Beach Pea Kitchen & Bar

The Beach Pea Kitchen & Bar has announced that they will be re-opening for the season on April 21! They are looking forward to welcoming back guests for the spring and summer months for relaxed dining on the Lunenburg waterfront. They will be offering signature dishes, as well as some new dishes which feature fresh and local ingredients. Stay tuned for the updated menu!

If you a have a special occasion coming up, or if you’re just craving a delicious cake, Church Brewing Co. has you covered! They are happy to create beautiful custom cakes in their bakery. Burger Wars 2021

All April long, many restaurants across the Annapolis Valley are participating in this year’s Burger Wars! For each specialty burger sold during the month of April, $1 will be donated to Campaign for Kids to help youth in financial need in Kings County.

For each restaurant you visit, you’ll receive a stamp on your Burgers Wars passport. For every five restaurants you visit, you’ll get one ballot towards the grand prize, which is a $400 gift certificate for the Quarterdeck Resort. One passport entrant will win a $100 gift certificate to the restaurant that wins the People’s Choice Award.

Participating Taste of Nova Scotia members include: Kellock’s Restaurant, The Union Street, Crystany’s Brasserie, Maritime Express Cider Co., Paddy’s Brewpub, Wayfarer’s Ale Society, Winegrunt, Church Brewing Co., and Lightfoot & Wolfville.

Mahone Bay Burger Week

Upcoming event alert! From April 26 to May 2, the 3rd Annual Mahone Bay Burger Week will take place! When you visit a participating restaurant, $1 from every burger sold will go to the Mahone Bay Food Bank. Mateus Bistro and Rebecca’s Restaurant are the Taste of Nova Scotia members who will be taking part in this year’s Mahone Bay Burger Week. Featured Recipe: Atlantic Sea Scallop BLT

Looking for a way to jazz up your BLT? We have the (delicious) answer for you – bacon wrapped scallops! This recipe takes a timeless sandwich to the next level by using Comeau Sea Foods Ltd. bacon wrapped scallops, marinated tomatoes and garlic aioli. The result?
